As a Maintenance Person in a care home, your role is to ensure the proper functioning, safety, and cleanliness of the facility. You will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to maintain and repair the care home's physical infrastructure, including the building, grounds, and equipment. Your contributions are essential in creating a comfortable and secure environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of the care home's premises, identifying any maintenance or repair needs. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, repairing fixtures, painting walls, fixing doors and windows, and addressing general wear and tear.

Plumbing and Electrical Systems: Monitor and maintain plumbing systems, including faucets, toilets, and drains, to ensure proper functioning. Perform minor repairs and coordinate with professionals for more significant plumbing or electrical issues.

Safety Compliance: Regularly inspect safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, and exit signs, ensuring they are in good working condition. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and replacements.

Groundskeeping: Maintain the care home's outdoor areas, including gardens, lawns, walkways, and parking lots. Perform tasks such as mowing grass, trimming shrubs, removing weeds, and clearing snow or debris to ensure a safe and attractive environment.

Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair various equipment used within the care home, such as laundry machines, kitchen appliances, medical devices, and cleaning equipment. Keep detailed maintenance logs and coordinate with external vendors for more complex repairs or replacements.

Respond to Emergencies: Be available for on-call duty to address urgent maintenance issues, such as leaks, power outages, or equipment malfunctions. Take immediate action to minimize disruptions and hazards, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and staff.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with care home staff, including administrators, nurses, and support personnel, to address maintenance concerns and coordinate tasks efficiently. Communicate effectively with residents, families, and visitors regarding maintenance-related matters.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, equipment manuals, and warranty information. Provide reports to the management team as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a care home setting.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good organizational and time-management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor tasks.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies.
