**About the Role**
As a Lead Developer, you will build and lead our software development community and set the standards and principles we follow for software development. You will also lead the technical design of new services and the migration of existing services to the cloud and support the professional development of the community by guiding, training, coaching and mentoring other members. You will also be an active member of the leadership team, helping us modernise and think radically about the role of technology in the future of the organisation.

The purpose of a Lead Developer is to:

- Build and lead our software development community and set the standards and principles we follow for software development.
- Lead the technical design of new services and the migration of existing services to the cloud.
- Support the professional development of the community by guiding, training, coaching and mentoring other members.
- Be an active member of the leadership team, helping us modernise and think radically about the role of technology in the future of the organisation.

The role reports directly to the Head of Digital Delivery.

**About Us**

Our Digital & IT service is a shared service between The Royal Borough of Kingston and The London Borough of Sutton. Both councils have ambitious transformation programmes that depend on a more effective use of data. The councils need to combine datasets within business areas and across multiple business areas to gain better insights and improve council services for residents.

**About You**
To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience:

- Experience leading software development teams.
- Experience setting service and development standards.
- Experience developing services that takes account of the needs of diverse users.
- Experience building complex services in code.
- Experience working in a culture of continuous code release.
- Significant experience working in teams using agile methods and culture.
- Significant experience in understanding and balancing client, organisational, and technical needs and knowing how to balance these when setting product strategy and direction.
- Significant experience researching, prototyping, launching and scaling products and platforms from inception to live.
- Experience working with APIs and microservices architecture and managing the relationships between interdependent product and platform teams.
