CIEL is at the heart of driving real change in the Livestock sector.

A small team with a wide reach, we have a broad and exciting remit. Our current research priorities and projects reflect critical challenges faced by the livestock and aquaculture sectors, including net zero, productivity, animal welfare and antimicrobial resistance.

**Reports to**: Business Research & Delivery Manager

**Salary**: £26-£29k dependent on skills and experience

**Job Status**: Full Time

**Location**: York, North Yorkshire. Hybrid working.

**Purpose**

We’re looking for someone to join us as our Project support Officer. You’ll be integral to CIEL’s delivery of research and innovation projects across the agrifood sector, providing key support to the business development team.

You will help us to make sure that we maintain momentum on projects. You’ll get involved with planning, monitoring and implementation, and you and your actions will directly influence the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our projects.

Whether it is working with some of the most recognised food companies operating in the UK, supporting innovative start-up businesses, or liaising with our GrassCheckGB farmers, CIEL’s breadth of activity makes this a genuinely diverse and challenging role.

You’ll help us to identify any emerging issues and communicate them to all of the necessary stakeholders and partners. You’ll capture and manage project data, analysing the information and taking responsibility for reporting progress.

We’d also like you to get involved in supporting development and progress by organising webinars, workshops and meetings. You will be expected to participate in some of these events as a presenter, facilitator or host.

This role would suit someone looking at their first or second role in agri-tech or innovation. We’re a small, but highly expert team who can provide support and training and provide real development. In return we’ll expect you to be enthusiastic, engaged, willing to try new things and genuinely interested in the sector and our work.

**Main Duties**
- Leading CIEL’s monitoring and communication of the innovation funding landscape, sharing opportunities with colleagues and industry contacts.
- Managing projects, monitoring milestones and delivery dates, reporting on interdependencies and highlighting risks.
- Support project activity by setting up meetings, webinars, and workshops, participating as required in liaison with the Admin & Events coordinator.
- Liaison with project partners to communicate and coordinate project progress and address any emerging issues.
- Feasibility studies for project proposals, completing literature searches, gathering information and summarising into the required format.
- Record and monitor project financials, generate invoices, and provide project cost updates using project management system (SAP).
- Reviewing and updating project contracts, checking content for clauses and requirements that will have impact of delivery.
- Change control on projects ensuring that projects stay within scope and budget.
- Financial forecasting and budgeting on projects.
- Support the Monthly MO reporting requirement.

**Essential Criteria**
- A keen interest in either agriculture, agri-food or research environments.
- Thorough understanding of the project lifecycle.
- Strong numeracy skills.
- Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to perform Project costings to support Business Planning and Project Bids.
- Excellent literature research skills.
- Strong science knowledge and an understanding of the livestock sector.
- Proven interpersonal skills, able to quickly build and maintain working relationships.
- Detailed and Process orientated.

**Desirable**
- Experience of using SAP or similar systems and/or CRM systems.
- Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2).
- Degree or equivalent experience in a Life Sciences.
