We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Patient Services team working across both the General Office and Overseas patients team.

Previous experience or skills in reception/customer service and cash handling together with a knowledge of the benefits system and Hospital Travel Cost Scheme is desirable.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week. Applicants will be expected to be flexible and may be asked to work in other areas within Patient Services which could include outpatient booking and reception services. This post is not eligible for home working.

Issue and account for petty cash, including the payments of travel expenses for patients under the Hospital Travel Cost Scheme. Receive, account for and bank, using the General Office database all income, private patient payments, donations and any other income to the Trust. Balance weekly petty cash and replenish by ordering monies from the bank.

Receive, account for and disburse, valuable patient property using the cash and valuables electronic system. Receive and account for valuable lost property using the General Office lost property database. Investigate and process Ex-Gratia claims to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, eg claims for lost clothes, spectacles and other items of personal belongings that have been lost. Issue meal vouchers for inpatients and ensure a monthly recharge to appropriate Departments. Respond to general enquiries for travel information. Assisting Departments across the Trust with arrangements for the provision of British Sign Language Interpreters and language interpreters for overseas patients and arranging document translation.

The post holder will provide services daily with patients, carers and staff. It is essential the post holder has excellent patient facing customer care skills at all levels and is responsive to the needs of all those who may encounter the General Office.

The post holder will daily be responsible for the processing, payment of and recording cash payments to members of the public and staff. The postholder will also receive, process, and reconcile payments from patients and staff regularly in cash, cheques, and credit/debit cards.

Maintain a high level of customer service, financial and administrative accuracy, whilst working at times with visitors to the General Office who present challenging behaviour eg patients, carers and visitors who are upset, angry and frustrated or patients where there are barriers to communication.
