Thirsk, United Kingdom North Yorkshire Scouts Full time

**Salary**:£10.90 an hour

**Contract**:15 hours a week (part time)

**Base Location**:Home based with some travel in North Yorkshire

**Department**: County Support Team

**Responsible to**:County Support Team Leader

**Internal Relationships**:Lead Volunteer (County Commissioner), County Support Team Leader and other Team Leaders, Scout HQ staff members, Scouting volunteers from North Yorkshire.

**External Relationships**:Members of the public, people and organisations from the education, youth and charity sector, other key stakeholders.

**Benefits**:20 days annual leave pro rata (equivalent to 89.6 hours holiday), plus 8 bank holidays. Increases to 23 days pro rata after 2 years, then to 25 days pro rata after 5 years. Parental and dependent care leave allowance. Flexible working.

The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative support to our large County Team.

We have our own activity centre, Watson Scout Centre, which can be hired out to Scout and other youth groups all year round. This postholder will be on hand to support the volunteer team who manage the venue itself with bookings and general administration when required.

This role also requires managing two key areas of responsibility, which have been delegated to Scout Counties from Scout HQ; first, the post holder will work with our World Scout Jamboree volunteer team. This is an international camp which occurs every 4 years, and young people are selected from our county to participate, supported by a team of volunteers. The team are collectively known as ‘the contingent’ and in the two years prior to the Jamboree, this group holds regular camps and events.

Secondly, the role will also include managing the administration of the Scouts’ Adventurous Activity Permit scheme. This scheme ensures our members hold the appropriate qualifications to run adventurous activities. (Our members are assessed by a volunteer, and the scheme is run by a volunteer, so no personal knowledge of adventurous activities is required for this role)

Finally, this role will also provide meeting and administrative support to our County Leadership team. This will include organising meetings, providing secretarial support, and dealing with new member enquiries. The County holds an annual Awards ceremony for its members, and an Annual Conference. The postholder will help deliver these events, undertaking tasks like arranging venues, and producing information for members.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**
- Managing bookings for a wide range of events, including collating and verifying participant information, and ensuring all data is held in line with our Data Protection responsibilities.
- Team organiser for our volunteer Leadership team, including coordinating organisation of our annual County Awards ceremony and our County Conference, with support from our volunteers.
- Managing our Jamboree Unit and Adventurous Permit administration, in line with Scout HQ guidelines.
- The postholder may also be required to undertake other tasks as may be reasonably required, alongside the other Member Support Officers.

**Demands of the role**
- This role will involve undertaking independent work, as well as assisting colleagues with regular administrative functions. It will involve regular communication with volunteer team leaders, and Scouting volunteers from across North Yorkshire.
- The tasks of this role are predominately computer-based work, with no physical demands foreseen. Training can be provided if the postholder is not experienced in our main computer systems.
- This position has no core hours, and the postholder can choose their own flexible working hours, to fit the 15 hours as they choose, across a 7 day week.
- The postholder may be expected to attend some Scouting sessions, events and workshops, which take place across North Yorkshire. These will typically occur on weekends and in the evenings rather than during the normal 9-5 working day.
- We have a small office in Thirsk, and a third of our membership are based in York, with other large Scout populations in Scarborough and Harrogate. Therefore, travel to these areas is likely.
- The postholder will need to become a member of The Scouts and adhere to the Scouts’ policies. This will require undertaking basic training on Scouting, Safeguarding, Safety and GDPR. This role will also require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
- The postholder must be a permanent resident of the UK and must have the right to work in the UK.

This position has no line management or supervisory responsibilities.**Salary**:£10.90 an hour
