Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust with special interested in Hand & Wrist surgery. This post will also include participation in the general MSK trauma and on call service. We are located within an area of outstanding natural beauty which includes opportunities to drive, walk, run, swim or cycle in the Purbecks, along
miles of golden beaches and the Jurassic coastline. The Olympic sailing venue is nearby in Weymouth, there are also great facilities for water
sports including kite and wind surfing. Dorchester is the county town for Dorset, with a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, two cinemas and
multiple nearby attractions. Applicants must have FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent and would have appropriate subspecialty fellowship training in Hand & Wrist surgery.

INTERVIEW DATE - 11/8/23
- To provide inpatient and outpatient trauma and orthopaedic services and to provide additional support to the Hand and Wrist service.
- To take part in the 1 in 8 consultant on call rota and conduct post-take consultant ward rounds.
- To liaise and provide support to the Orthopaedic Treatment Service based within primary care.
- To be part of a Multidisciplinary Team, which include Consultants in Anaesthetics and Rheumatology (pain service), Radiology, Pathology and Elderly Care, nursingstaff, physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
- To contribute to the training of Higher and Basic Surgical Trainees and other professional team members.
- To ensure a high level of efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of patient care.
- To fulfil continuing professional development requirements in line with clinical governance.
- To participate in audit and other areas of Directorate responsibility.
- To assist the department in meeting government targets, and take an active part in further development of the service.

The Orthopaedic Department at Dorset County Hospital consists of ten full time Consultants, one Associate Specialist, three Specialty Doctors, four Registrars on the Wessex rotation, eight junior doctors and one Trust Doctors supporting the service.

The main base for the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department is Dorset County Hospital, which has a helicopter pad on site and is the elected landing site for the Dorset air ambulance and Coastguard helicopter making the Trust an important trauma centre for the area.

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides excellent services to a rural population of 215,000. Your main base would be at Dorset County Hospital, a modern 365 bed, acute hospital located in the County town of Dorchester.

Dorchester is a popular market town with easy access to Dorset’s Jurassic Coastline in an area of outstanding beauty, served by frequent direct rail services to London and Bristol, with four regional airports within 90 minutes by road. There are excellent recreational amenities and good educational facilities available in both the public and private sectors. The popular seaside holiday resort of Weymouth with its golden beaches and picturesque harbour is only eight miles away.
