Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in all everything we do”, the post holder will be based within Adult Critical Care and will be expected to work flexibly across campuses as required.

The post holder will be a proactive role model who leads in the clinical environment on the provision of clinical education and assessment of competence in critical care. They will play an essential role in the development, implementation and management of medical devices to ensure consistent safe and optimal use. As a medical devices specialist the post-holder will additionally be a source of authoritative advice for clinical, technical and managerial staff on medical device usage, upkeep and safety issues within Critical Care; they may also support strategic planning, product evaluation, safety action and incident investigation activities relating to medical devices.

The post holder will

work alongside nurses and other healthcare practitioners to ensure the provision of high quality safe and effective evidence-based care; in accordance with local, divisional and hospital policies and procedures

assist in identifying and defining areas for improvement and develop targeted teaching and learning activities to facilitate improvement

develop and deliver training and educational programmes and optimise learning activities for practitioners

To support the development of critical care staff, and foster empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing

To coordinate orientation of new staff / starters to the organization and Critical

To promote reflective practice, clinical supervision and experiential Learning opportunities developing a learning culture in the clinical

To co-ordinate the provision of training programmes across critical care to meet training needs; to provide, facilitate and deliver such training programmes (in conjunction with other NUH staff and external training providers, as necessary); to assess the competencies of medical device users and of delegated medical device Authorised Trainers within clinical departments.

To support the NUH Medical Devices Safety Officer in the risk management and continual improvement of medical device practices and safety throughout Critical Care to bring to the attention of the NUH Medical Devices Safety Committee any issues relating to the unsafe and inappropriate use of medical devices; to provide expert support to the management of safety actions and the investigation of untoward incidents involving medical devices, particularly where these relate to usage issues; to be actively involved in the reliable dissemination of investigation outcomes to ensure that lessons are learnt and acted upon.
