Vetting Officer

Amentum have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Vetting Officer to lead vetting activities in support of a major defence programme in Bristol.
Working alongside a passionate and growing defence team based at Aztec West, the role offers the opportunity to enable key defence outputs, alongside professional development, fully supported by our talented information security team.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Being the programme’s primary point of contact on vetting activity, providing guidance and advice on vetting matters related to project resources with the support of Amentum’s Vetting Manager as required.
- Developing, reviewing, implementing and maintaining forms, guidance documentation and processes that are compliant with any necessary governance as required.
- Executing the full lifecycle of the vetting and clearance processes as appropriate for the clearance level and contractual requirements, and utilising the systems provided for the role.
- Updating and maintaining vetting records that are fully auditable, recording accurate and concise notes as required, and undertaking effective records management to comply with data protection regulations.
- Issuing various vetting and clearance forms and guidance where required.
- Liaising with the individual and other stakeholders during the clearance process to request any required information to support the process, respond to queries in an timely manner, and provide any updates.
- Ensuring the quality assurance of all security forms/documentation before submission to the vetting authority.
- Informing individual and managers of vetting decisions where appropriate, and providing confirmation of vetting outcomes.
- Ongoing security clearance management and aftercare including engagement with relevant authorities.
- Ensuring annual reviews are initiated, followed up and where necessary, additional actions are completed.
- Providing timely notifications when clearances are due for renewal, initiating renewals, and following up to completion.
- Performing security briefings as required.
- Managing the administration related to clearances for any leavers from the programme.
- Providing a professional and high-quality service to individuals and both internal and external stakeholders through verbal and written communication, with patience to explain complex forms or processes to individuals so that documentation is completed correctly, accurately and on time.
- Identifying any process or service improvements in support of the programme and implementing these as required.
- Escalating any service, process or resource issues.
- Providing management and stakeholder reporting as required.
- Maintaining an up-to-date working knowledge of UKSV security clearance requirements and supporting documentation for compliance and enforcement.
**Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required**:
- Previous experience in personnel security or a vetting role with knowledge of requirements and processes within HMG and UKSV.
- Strong communication and inter-personal skills, both written and verbal, to communicate with internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis.
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively.
- Attentive to detail, excellent organisational skills, and ability to follow processes through to completion.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to respond to changing priorities.
- Ability to use own initiative, prioritise and deliver accurate results to tight deadlines.
- Able to work both independently and as part of team.
- An understanding of the principles of data protection and a strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive personal data.
- Must be British and capable of holding SC security clearance.
- Capable of working 40 hours (Monday to Friday) with a hybrid working approach.
- Previous experience working within a List X environment and with Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) is preferred.
