An opportunity has arisen for an SLT to join the Nottingham Children’s Hospital SLT service (Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - NUH). We are currently re-developing this service and following appointment at Clinical Specialist level we are now keen to appoint to the Band 7 SLT post in the paediatric brain injury team (Brain Injury Living Life - BRILL). The post sits within a friendly, dedicated, and ambitious MDT and within an evolving acute paediatric SLT service. There is support and supervision from the MDT and from the large SLT service for adults and paediatrics across NUH, including colleagues working with brain injury in acute and rehabilitation settings, with opportunities for mutual mentoring and support.

This post is permanent 0.5WTE (18.75 hours).

Main duties of the job

The BRILL Team is a multi-disciplinary team which supports children and young people from across region who are admitted to Nottingham Children’s Hospital with acquired brain/CNS injuries and associated difficulties relating to major trauma, neurosurgery, or neuro-oncology. They work on paediatric Critical Care through to ward level, providing early intervention and multi-disciplinary intensive paediatric neuro-rehabilitation and supported discharge home. The SLT role is largely working with children during their inpatient admission, addressing their swallowing/eating and drinking difficulties and also their communication difficulties. The role includes supporting the children and MDT colleagues for a well-planned and supported early discharge home and back into education. The role also includes inter-disciplinary teaching and training of patients, families, and other professionals. The post-holder will work with the Clinical Specialist to scope out future developments for the SLT role for these patients.

Working for our organisation
- NUH is a large teaching hospital, across 2 sites: Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital. The SLT service works across both sites, working alongside a separate ENT service. We work across a very broad range of adult and paediatric acute specialties.
