The role of the Speech and Language Therapist is to develop and provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to individuals with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs. This role sits within the Inpatient Adult Mental Health Service in a leading healthcare organization.

The role requires a high level of clinical and professional expertise to ensure that the population benefits from a well-coordinated, proactive, specialist, efficient, and effective Speech and Language Therapy service. The role remit includes individual assessment, diagnosis, therapy, management, training, advice, and liaison. The post holder will have a mixed caseload of Dysphagia and Communication cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To be autonomous and responsible for the assessment, formulation, and management of a specialist clinical caseload ensuring practice is in line with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists' Position Paper and Quality Guidelines.
  2. To coordinate access to Speech and Language Therapy for both Dysphagia and Communication referrals across multiple healthcare settings.
  3. To develop and implement effective communication strategies and standards.
  4. To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums as required.
  5. To be responsible for the mentoring, supervision, and management of junior Speech and Language Therapists, Assistant Speech and Language Therapists, and students as required and appropriate.

A full driving license and vehicle for business use may be required for this post; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals with disabilities in line with the Equality Act 2010.
