The post holder in conjunction with the Directorate Matron and Ward Manager will utilise their clinical, teaching and development skills to support and facilitate ongoing education, training, and practice development as part of the education team for the neonatal unit.

The post holder will act as a professional role model to members of the clinical team and will lead and facilitate changes in clinical practice, which enhance care packages for the neonate and family.

In addition, the post holder will assist the Child Health Management Team via the Directorate Matron in identifying and addressing learning needs, promoting expansion of and evidence-based practice. The Lead Neonatal Educator will be responsible for providing structured, innovative in-house training, orientation, and induction packages to enable clinical staff to meet ongoing developments within neonatal care and cot side teaching.

To be able to provide clinical supervision to all staff, including students.

The post holder will develop effective and efficient networks and external relationships both locally and nationally with the view to sharing and learning about best practice as well as managing and co-ordinating education and training initiatives with external providers.

The post involves disseminating specialist skills and knowledge to others and combining managerial, clinical, professional, and corporate duties to work closely with team members, to provide high standards of clinical care.

**Staff development, training, and mentorship**:

- As Lead Neonatal Educator for the education team you will co-ordinate teaching sessions both formal and at the cot side.
- Develop, implement, and monitor competencies and preceptorship programmes to ensure staff can their fulfil roles.
- To devise, facilitate and co-ordinate competency-based training for all staff to meet local and national expectations.
- In conjunction with the management team devise a planned programme of education and development needs for a range of clinical staff.
- Organise specific competency-based education and training for all clinical staff relating to medical devices.
- Support new ways of working to improve services within the directorate and gain feedback where appropriate.
- Promote a positive learning environment within the unit, which supports personnel and professional growth and development.
- Implement, deliver and evaluate educational programmes for nursing staff in the unit including mandatory and role specific training.
- Support staff who wish to deliver educational activities within their clinical area
