The main Hall consists of 30 bedrooms the majority of which are ensuite, various meeting rooms and quiet spaces and a bar to unwind in, listed well preserved gardens, Camping site with an unspoiled back to nature feel, Glamping, Self-catering cottages, a bunkhouse which sleeps 28 with great facilities for those groups who want to cater for themselves. The Tea Rooms which is open all year and often a stopping point for those who have come to visit Rydal or are passing through on the many walks. So, all in all it is a unique platform for us to engage with our visitors and guests to transform and raise a sense of conscious and awareness of Rydal.

The post holder will be a member of the permanent team and will be responsible for the day-to-day work of the Gardens & Estates Team. Support the Heads of Gardens & Estate Manager and undertake the care and maintenance of the grounds, gardens and will be responsible for carrying out all essential maintenance within the Hall, Cottages, Bunk House and Toilet Blocks.

As a member of the Rydal Hall Team, you are expected to share in all aspects of the day-to-day work of Rydal Hall.

**Main Job Duties and Responsibilities**
- To actively take part in the Rydal Hall community supporting the Management and Chaplain to help provide a safe and secure environment for both staff and guests.
- Undertaking efficient maintenance work in the buildings, gardens, grounds and camp sites as required by the Estates Manager.
- When necessary, supervise the work of maintenance contractors when they are on site.
- Participate in meetings, staff appraisal and training when required.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure an efficient understanding of requirements.
- To operate, manage and control horticultural equipment and machinery, ensuring its maintenance and good condition.
- Use and control chemicals and hazardous substances used in accordance with the manufacturers’ specifications and health and safety regulations.
- To undertake minor repairs and renovations to garden furniture and structures.
- Ensure footpaths, lawns, beds etc. are clean, tidy and litter free and ensure lawns are cut and hedges regularly trimmed. To carry out annual tasks such as tree maintenance, ground clearance, reinstatement works etc.
- To be responsible for security of buildings and keys, garden equipment, machinery and furniture.
- Report any defects likely to affect efficient risk management and health and safety provision.
- To welcome, and provide information as necessary, to visitors and the ability to communicate and promote the gardens through literature, written articles, speaking engagements, and including garden tours.
- To record complaints from members of the public, report instances of crime and be responsible for records kept in connection with risk management, health and safety to be reviewed annually.
- Cultivate flowers, greenery and herbs to be used in the main hall and associated buildings.
- Assist with the basic training and supervision of volunteer workers.

Working 37.5 hours per week over 5 days.

Annual salary £23,400 + non-contributory pension
