Manchester, United Kingdom The Pankhurst Trust (Incorporating Manchester Women's Aid) Full time

Dear Idea makers, Boundary Pushers, Problem Solvers, and Forward Thinkers Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer role? Are you passionate about gender equality and want to be part of a group of women and girls influencing policy across the city-region? If so, keep reading

In 2020 the Greater Manchester Combined Authority established a Women and Girls Equality Panel, alongside 6 other equality panels, to accelerate gender equality in the city-region. The Panel works towards a vision for all women and girls, across the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, to have equality of opportunity to start well, live well and age well.

The Panel meets periodically, and aims to:

- Advise the Mayor and GMCA on key issues and the inequalities facing women and girls, and provide solutions.
- Provide a critical voice and scrutinise the work of the Mayor and GMCA.
- Undertake specific pieces of work to reduce the inequalities experienced by women and girls in the city-region and across society.
- Ensure that gender equality is actively considered by GMCA, and the wider Greater Manchester system, in decisions made to help make the city-region a better place to live, work, study and do business.

**Core responsibilities as panel member**:

- Be a positive and proactive member of the Panel, engaging with the community, championing its work, contributing to its development and taking part in its activity.
- Feed information outwards to your community networks and also bring information inwards from them to ensure democratic representation.
- Champion the work of the Panel to encourage wider participation and raise the profile of its work.
- Be prepared for the meetings, and have read papers circulated in advance.
- Make every effort to attend meetings, substitutes may be permitted following agreement between member and facilitating organisations.
- Progress any actions that you agreed to deliver and report back to the Panel in the timescales agreed.
- Contribute to the Panel by engaging in relevant training and development opportunities.
- Commit a minimum of twelve half days per year to the work of the Panel.

**We are looking for panel members who**:

- Are skilled, knowledgeable and passionate about working collaboratively to tackle inequality, focusing on an intersectional approach.
- Have strong links to (underrepresented) communities of women and girls, as well as the mechanisms to harness their views and represent them.
- Can work with other perspectives, and aim to agree a ‘collective good’.
- Have insight or first-hand experience of the issues the Panel will focus on.
- Are committed to the aims and objectives of the Panel (as set out in the Terms of Reference).

**Support for panel members**:

- Reasonable travel and other out of pocket expenses incurred through the work of the Panel will be reimbursed.
- Any additional support required by members to enable them to play an active role, for example childcare or accessible materials.
- Appropriate notice and information about meetings and events.
- Opportunities to attend other relevant city-region and national events, meetings and activities.
- There is no financial award (stipend) for panel members, the role is voluntary.

Further information on the Panel can be found on our website. You will find it especially useful to review the Member Profile for Individuals and Organisations, the Panel’s Terms of Reference, and our 2022-23 Annual Report.
