An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse or AHP educated to degree level wishing to gain or further their experience within clinical governance. The post is to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 month.

This is a post within a small team, working within the clinical support services divisional management structure, focusing on all aspects of quality assurance and clinical governance. Our division oversees a diverse range of support services, including critical care, anaesthetics, radiology, pharmacy, pathology and psychological medicine.

We are hoping to recruit someone who will bring their experience within healthcare to help us progress and maintain robust processes for assuring the Trust that our patients receive high quality and excellent care.

You will be involved in assurance processes including audit, formal report writing, incident management and maintenance of the divisional risk register. Other duties will include liaising with clinical staff to ensure and document the completion of action plans, protocols and information leaflets; escalating concerns and risks raised by clinical staff within the divisional governance structure and preparing reports for and representing the division at governance meetings. Confident use of IT systems, an enjoyment of learning and a structured approach will be advantageous.

This role will bring you into contact with a wide range of healthcare professionals, while working within the divisional team, who are committed to maintaining and continually improving the quality of care provided to patients.

Working closely with resources at a Divisional level to provide support, facilitation and guidance for clinical governance activities, that are in line with the strategic view and intent of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role encompasses incident management, risk management, clinical audit and clinical effectiveness programmes. The appointee will assist the Divisional Lead CGRP to develop robust systems and processes in relation to clinical governance and quality, as required by CQC and NHSI or other regulators.

The post holder works with front line staff e.g. clinical staff, directorate clinical governance leads and laboratory quality managers to build engagement in key clinical governance processes and programmes and co-ordinate the delivery of the clinical governance and quality agenda. The post holder will deliver specific training education & training e.g. local incident & audit management system, incident investigation, impact of human factors, risk and CQC self-assessment. The role is key to supporting the services to undertake CQC self-assessments and write the formal assurance reports. A key role in the preparation of the divisional monthly quality report for Trust Clinical Governance Committee, collation of information for the Annual Quality Account and incident investigation reports.

The appointee will develop and maintain relationships inter-divisionally, and with the central clinical governance team to ensure that incidents are investigated in accordance with the relevant Trust and national policies. Work to support the investigation and preparation of new incidents for discussion at the weekly SIRI forum. Once the level of investigation is agreed, prepare the investigation pack and timeline, support preparation of Duty of Candour letter and work with the appointed lead investigator to provide the incident management knowledge to support the investigation and report writing. The post holder has a key role in the collation and tracking of progress of the divisional and SIRI level incidents to closure, with proactive sharing of learning across the directorates/divisions/organisation, where appropriate, as part of our commitment to becoming a high reliability division. Provide timely updates on progress of closed actions as requested to the Trust, CCG, CQC or other bodies.

The post holder will work in liaison with the Lead CGRP and Divisional Education Lead to identify education requirements and assist with delivering these programmes and the Executive walkabouts for CSS Division or other external inspections as required e.g. MHRA, HTA.

The appointee will assist Divisional Professional and Governance Leads to Support staff who are involved in incident investigations or preparing for Coroner’s Court hearings. This is part of supporting staff well-being and prevention of a second victim.
