1. To provide accurate, timely and complete clinically coded data for all specialties of the Trust.
2. To assist the trainee coders, clinicians and managers to improve knowledge of clinical coding and related topics.
3. To provide assurance of the accuracy and completeness for clinical coding.
4. To assist in the development and implementation of policy and systems to ensure a clinical coding service which meets best
practice guidance.
5. To provide expert knowledge in the use of clinical coding classifications and associated systems.
As a member of the Clinical Coding team based at either St Helier or Epsom Hospitals your key duties will be to ensure a high standard of coding completeness and accuracy for activity undertaken within the Trust, while also meeting national and local data submission deadlines
The post holder will be required to abstract, analyse and accurately code clinical information from patient records (paper and electronic) across all specialities using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Classifications in accordance with National Standards and the Trust's Policy and Procedures guidelines.
We are a centralised coding team with coding offices on 2 sites. Our source documentation for coding is a mix of paper and electronic documents, with an emphasis on moving towards a fully electronic patient record.
This is a busy, friendly department, in an accessible location that is served by road and rail links around Surrey and London and are the only hospitals in Surrey to offer staff the London high cost area supplement.

Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust are investing hundreds of millions of pounds to build a new state of the art hospital in Sutton while retaining and upgrading our current sites at St Helier and Epsom. To support our new ways of working we have begun an exciting project to implement an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) across all sites. This EPR implementation forms an integral part of the Trust’s new hospital programme, Improving Healthcare Together.
