**The Digital Exploitation Team (DET) is a newly established team within the Directorate of Professional Standards who are responsible for identifying and implementing digital solutions which enable the effective Lawful Business Monitoring and audit of MPS ICT in support of DPS operations and investigations.**

As an intelligence and audit researcher, you will be involved with intelligence receipt, information/data interrogation and collation form a variety of overt, covert, and sensitive sources. You will develop intelligence and evidential packages which contribute to the greatest operational and organisational impact and ensure that risks are identified and mitigated.

The team will play a pivotal role in delivering the Commissioners objectives of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

**Key responsibilities**
- Review, assess and triage data obtained from various Lawful Business Monitoring (LBM) sources.
- Complete comprehensive information reports and intelligence packages and disseminate findings appropriately and in accordance with Handling instructions.
- Identify, test, and implement new processes and software solutions in support of DPS investigations and operations
- Provide specialist advice pertaining to LBM in support of proactive and reactive investigations and potentially crimes in action, to ensure that investigations are conducted with due consideration of expertise, best practice, and legislation in this area
- Comply and assure compliance with all relevant legislation, such as IPA, PACE, CPIA, Computer Misuse Act, ECHRA and the Data protection Act
- Provide MPS-DPS primary support to critical incidents which may require LBM activity or audit support

Although this is mainly an office-based role, we can accommodate flexible and agile working in line with core resilience needs. Opportunities for agile working will increase as the team is established.

**Vetting**

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) **OR** Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

**Essential Criteria**

**Desirable Criteria**

Knowledge, understanding and proven interest in one or more of the following business areas:

- Web technologies
- Mobile technologies
- Programming experience (C/C+, Java, Python, PS, Bash)
- Computer networks (both wired and wireless, TCP/IP stack)
- System (Win, Linux, OSx)
- Network and Database administration
- Experience of SPLUNK enterprise
