ROCU is a collaboration between the police forces of Staffordshire, West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire to reduce the impact and increase the disruption of serious and organised crime within the region and beyond. We target those areas of criminality we believe pose the greatest regional threats to the people and businesses of the area we cover. Working alongside other UK law enforcement agencies and many other partners from both private and public sectors, the ROCU will directly influence the capabilities of these groups, stifling and reducing their criminal activity.

Applications are sought from substantive constables who seek a rewarding role within an inclusive and friendly team for the post of Intelligence Officer within the Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU), part of the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands (ROCU), currently based in central Birmingham, though it may be moving in the near future to a location within the greater Birmingham area. **There is an awareness session for current police officers in West Midlands, Warwickshire, West Mercia and Staffordshire police forces for a number of vacancies for Intercept Case Officer and SIU Intelligence Officer.**

**Role Purpose**:
The SIU is a secure environment that is able to receive, assess, analyse and disseminate all intelligence. We achieve this by providing a functionality that protects capability and methodology, whilst allowing investigators to benefit from intelligence gained.

**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
As SIU Intelligence Officer, you will:

- Evaluate information to determine its intelligence potential
- Develop and research information and intelligence reporting findings in order to support investigations.
- Interrogate appropriate Force and National databases and systems to develop intelligence and conduct open source research in accordance with NPCC guidelines
- Comply with disclosure requirements that fall within CPIA legislation.

Applicants need to be motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills. A degree of flexibility is required as support may be required at short notice in response to changing circumstances. The post holder must have a high degree of personal resilience as they will be exposed to dynamic threat to life, serious harm to vulnerable adults and children, and risk to the wider communities of the region, which can be unpleasant and distressing. SIU intelligence officers regularly brief senior investigating officers on dynamic crimes in action, so we are looking for applicants that can forge meaningful and productive relationships with internal and external partners, whilst also possessing the highest individual standards of confidentiality, honesty, integrity, tact and diplomacy.

**Knowledge and Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Must be a serving constable within either Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Mercia or West Midlands Police force;
- Must possess or be willing to work towards successful completion of Intelligence Professional Programme and Managing Sensitive Intelligence Course
- Must be willing to undergo and pass MV and SC vetting before posting then DV when in post
- Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills that support a diverse and inclusive working environment. The post holder will be articulate, methodical, conscientious and concise.
- Must be able to work closely with people (both team members and partners) to develop and deliver intelligence-led policing
- Must have high standards of integrity, discretion, confidentiality and aptitude to digest complex operational plans and manage highly sensitive information within the Government Security Classification (GSC) and Security Policy Framework (SPF).
- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and NPCC Guidance on the Management of Police Information (MOPI).
- You will work on a shift pattern which encompasses early mornings, late evening shifts and weekends.

**Desirable**:

- Internet Intelligence and Investigation trained from an approved provider
- Experience/understanding of working in an intelligence/information field connected to complex investigation
