**The Organisation**

At People Places Lives we are passionate about digital solutions and their ability to increase choice and control for all.

On the face if it, we work in partnership with health and social care organisations to deliver front-line solutions and services to individuals wanting to self-direct their care and support. Behind the scenes, we are a software and outsourcing company with a niche FinTech offering in a high-growth sector.

PPL employs 45 staff and has revenues of £3.2m per annum. We are an FCA-licenced e-money firm, managing and processing payments of £60m+ per annum on behalf of our clients.

**Role Background**

The Head of Finance role covers three areas:

- Corporate Accounting
- The production of monthly management accounts, annual accounts, forecasts, payroll, tax matters and annual audit for the company.
- Financial Operations - Overseeing the finance-related elements of the company's Virtual Wallet (e-money) operations. PPL currently holds c.£15m of client monies, and processes payments on their behalf of £5m+ per month.
- Risk & Compliance - Working alongside PPL's MLRO to ensure that the company maintains compliance with the FCA's rules for e-money firms.

The Head of Finance reports to the Board of Directors, and is a member of the company's Senior Leadership Team (which comprises the three Directors and six managers). The Head of Finance will manage a team of four staff.

As a digital-first organisation, this role is remote. However, travel to our Head Office in Wigan will be required (ideally one day per week).

**Role Responsibilities**

Corporate Accounting:

- Production of monthly management accounts and forecasts.
- Overseeing client invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and internal payroll.
- Production of VAT return.
- Prep for, and liaison with, the third-party undertaking the annual financial audit of the company.
- PPL uses Quickbooks software as it's internal financial system.

Financial Operations (Virtual Wallet):

- Oversight of the payment processes for the company's e-money solution (including performing assurance checks and leading process improvements).
- Overseeing the daily reconciliation process (client bank accounts to our in-house developed bespoke Virtual Wallet system).
- Supporting the operation of PPL's payroll service offering (which uses BrightPay).
- Main point-of-contact with our banking and payment partners (Barclays and B4B Payments).

Risk & Compliance:

- Overseeing day-to-day compliance, such as undertaking 'know your client' and bank checks on individuals who use Virtual Wallet.
- Monitoring finance operations activity for signs of financial crime or money laundering.
- Working alongside the company's MLRO to maintain FCA compliance, including policies and procedures, drafting of data returns to FCA and liaison with external auditors (annual safeguarding audit and annual financial crime audit).
- Main point-of-contact with our retained compliance advisors (Cosegic) and identity verification partner (SmartSearch).

**Skills and Experience**

**Experience**:
Essential: 5+ years finance experience.

Desirable: Working in a FinTech / payments / e-money / client money environment. Experience of Quickbooks accounting system and/or BrightPay payroll system.

**Qualifications**:
Essential: Recognised accounting qualification (or working towards one).

Desirable: Compliance / AML training or qualification.

**Skills**:
Computer literacy - good level of IT literacy using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook & Teams).

Communication - Excellent interpersonal and written/spoken communication skills. Must be comfortable communicating with a broad range of stakeholders.

Team work - Open and inclusive approach, willing and able to interact internally and externally.

Time management - Organised and able to perform to tight deadlines.
