Pinewood Housing is a young person 24-hour semi-independent supported housing provider for 16-18-year-old children Many of the young people living with us are looked after children under social care. The purpose of the role is to provide advice, assistance, and support to young people along with ensuring the house is maintained and the young people are supervised throughout your shift.

**The Role**:
Fundamental to fulfilling the responsibilities of this post is the ability to respond flexibly, positively and successfully to the ever changing. The job description is a guide to the level and range of responsibilities the post holder will be expected to undertake. It is neither exhaustive nor inclusive and will be changed from time to time to meeting changing circumstances and demands.
- To be responsible as a member of the staff team to formulate support plans with young people, construct packages of support to meet their needs and for the direct day to day support. To promote young people’s physical, emotional and social welfare; promoting their capacity to take responsibility for themselves and to act responsible towards others; in accordance with the Children Act 1989.

**Duties and Responsibilities;**

Main Duties**:

- Direct work with young people, key working and generally taking an active part in providing support on a shift work basis.
- Working in partnership with young people, their social worker and carers and other relevant agencies. To co-ordinate, monitor and review Care Plans for all allocated young people preparing to make the transition to adulthood and greater independence.
- Taking responsibility for the upkeep of the establishment with regard to health and safety and primary care issues, as well as making autonomous decisions about individual young people’s requests and behaviour whilst on shift.
- Administrative work and record keeping associated with key working responsibilities and the daily running of the home.
- To ensure that young people carry as much responsibility for their own lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry, keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving them in planning their lives, supporting them and helping them towards taking greater control and responsibility

- Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them
- Actively contributing to the development of the team
- Receiving and storing information to improve communication
- Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers
- Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties
- Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum Standards
- Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern (Whistleblowing)
- Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them

**General Responsibilities**
- Attending young people’s meetings and contributing to them
- Receiving training appropriate to the role and maintaining an up-to-date training profile
- Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post
- Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Health and Safety Policies
- Maintaining the upkeep of the house through general cleaning of communal areas.
- Cooking nutritiously balanced meals each time you are on shift for the young people.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience in working with young people
- Be willing to work towards a NVQ level 3 and completing it within 8 months of starting the role.

**Special Conditions**
- This post requires the holder to do varying shifts.
- On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.
