**Job summary**:
The US and Canada are two of the UK’s closest and most important allies and trade and investment partners. This role is at the heart of delivering this vital work in this dynamic, sophisticated and challenging region.
The role of Deputy HM Trade Commissioner, North America will work hand in glove with me and the DBT North America leadership team to achieve the Network’s vision and ambition in Canada and the US, ensuring that all aspects of the Network are working well and focused on delivering with impact. You will help to ensure that DBT North America is a great place to work; sets the standard for innovation and delivery; and exemplifies our culture of respect, inclusion and excellence. The role offers many opportunities for external representation with business leaders; public speaking; and travel across the region.
**Job description**:
- Support the HMTC to lead the DBT North America network towards achieving its vision and delivering the ambitious goals set out in the Regional Trade Plan, in line with its culture and values on being a diverse and inclusive team.
- Think strategically; act tactically; and deliver operationally across DBT's mandate, leveraging an integrated approach to trade policy and market access work to help achieve ever greater export and investment results for Canada and the US.
- Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer in DBT North America to ensure the network is structured, focused and motivated to have maximum impact and influence with the resources we have; and amplify our effect through leveraging relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with influential industry and government stakeholders; deputise for and support the HMTC with representational and networking responsibilities; and provide high quality advice including to Ministers on the commercial relationship between the UK and North America.
- Key member of the DBT North America senior leadership team, working closely across HMG in Canada and the US to ensure a joined-up approach to our trade and investment work.
- Line manage members of the DBT North America senior leadership team.

- Experience in a senior leadership role in a complex organisation and demanding environment as a visible and engaging leader who nurtures talent and promotes delivery through others, developing a high performing, motivated and inclusive international team;
- Credibility with business and government leaders; and ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and influencers, to deliver high impact outcomes;
- Proven experience of delivering at pace and working well under pressure, able to think strategically and act tactically, with politically astute acumen to provide clarity and direction in complex and dynamic situations; and demonstrate initiative, resilience and agility;
- Demonstrated ability of operational delivery to ensure that goals are met, including through data-driven and evidence-based decision making;
- Highly effective communication, networking and influencing skills, to engage successfully with international partners in a commercial and government environment, with strong understanding of international trade and investment.
