**Role Purpose**

Take the lead and deliver for day-to-day training and education at site/cluster level and driving innovation and change. Support the Health Group People Development strategy, developing staff to provide excellence and efficiency in care

**Core Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities**:

- Take the lead and deliver for day-to-day training and education at site/cluster level and driving innovation and change. Support the CHG People Development strategy, developing staff to provide excellence and efficiency in care.
- Working closely with the hospital senior management team to co-ordinate and provide delivery of training and education within scope of practice for the benefit of patient safety with the aim of ensuring the provision of high quality safe care.
- Deliver training and education as required in both a formal and informal setting aligned with the corporate clinical education strategy and competency framework.
- Champion and raise awareness of the benefits of effective education and training to increase the competence of hospital staf
- To provide academic support and supervisory expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge, skill and practical experience.
- To facilitate the development and implementation of innovative practice in line with current evidence, best and research based practice.
- Be the link person and develop strong collaborative links with higher education institutions.
- Identify implications for practice and create solutions in response to changes in service delivery and healthcare strategy.
- Promote a culture of active benchmarking and seeking to achieve best practice in all aspects of our business and facilitate the provision of evaluation of impact and consistent utilisation and capturing of accurate data and feedback.
- Produce quality reports and recommendations for external training requirements for consideration and support individuals with career conversations and external training requests appropriately.
- Support staff in the acquisition of essential and extended clinical skills as appropriate, e.g. specialist practice, cannulation and venepuncture, ward/unit management, oral and IV administration of medicines, recognition of the acutely ill patient.
- Complete Annual Educational Audit and prepare relevant reports with Senior Nursing teams.
- Develop mechanisms for the support of mentors and assessors to effectively undertake their roles to meet Fitness for Practice Standards.
- Maintain a live Mentor database for site and /or cluster.
- Provide guidance and support to Hospital managers and staff in the implementation of competencies and utilisation of the resources to support them.
- Link closely with learning coordinator and corporate regional clinical educator to ensure alignment to corporate strategic plan and priorities and able to articulate and support them.
- Initiate audits of nursing practice, evaluating the impact of existing and new practices to improve patient care.
- Actively disseminate developments in healthcare practice and research findings through lectures, formal and informal teaching

**Key Performance Indicators**:

- 100% delivery of the agreed Annual Training Programme at site/cluster, as measured at the completion of the Training Year and taking account of in-year adjustments
- Successful completion of courses by students, adaptation and return to nursing and other staff
- Student satisfaction rating of >90% measured monthly on training sessions delivered
- Demonstrate annual Return on Expectation by >90% pass rates in courses for assessment items
- Satisfactory or better feedback on performance, through performance review process
- Satisfactory or better results on educational and clinical audits
- Local patient satisfaction results, ensuring patient complaints are minimised
- Completion of competency assessment
- Staff competency completion rate and maintenance of high care standards as indicated in monitoring the audit activates

**Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications**:

- Registered General Nurse, Part 1 on NMC register or registered practitioner on the HCPC.
- Teaching / education (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or Masters) and mentoring qualification.
- Sound theoretical knowledge.
- Demonstrates evidence of professional development.
- Knowledge of NMC and HCPC Codes and guidelines.
- Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
- Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
