The role is generalist in nature and is an excellent opportunity for the commencement in an HR career. The role will involve a wide range of activities, from administration, filing, through to supporting managers at formal meetings, for example, sickness absence and discipline hearings.

Examples of the main duties and responsibilities are below:

- Laisse with line managers and discuss their recruitment requirements, understanding when positions are to be filled and in what period of time
- Draft job advertisements and agree any amendments with the line manager that maybe required for a particular role
- Confirm with the partners that there is authority to make an appointment to the requested roles and what salary is budgeted
- Identify the most suitable means to advertise the vacancy for the particular role, for example, the most appropriate recruitment website and/or professional publication
- Make best use of social media to promote vacancies
- Arrange interviews at the request of the hiring manager and laisse with the applicant, ensuring that any particular assistance or adjustment(s) is made to enable the applicant to attend interview
- Keep a log of all the vacancies that are open, showing date the vacancy was opened, closing date
- Understand which recruitment advertisement sources give better value for money and which tend to bring better results
- Assist with the induction and orientation of new members of staff
- Obtain references for new staff
- Attend job interviews, supporting the managers. This can include travelling to locations out with the head office and at times it can require over night accommodation
- Advise managers on the nature of questions that should be asked at interviews
- File personnel documentation
- Attend meetings and take a note of actions
- Arrange formal meetings such as investigations, discipline and grievance hearings, attending them giving support to the process and managers
- Assist the monitoring and a management of short term sickness absence
- Supporting staff on long term sickness absence
- Referring staff to occupational health and discussing OH reports with the member of staff and the manager
- Inputting data to the HR information system and informing payroll colleagues of contractual changes that will have a payroll impact
- Preparation of contracts of employment
- Arranging training and induction as required

The above is not exhaustive or exclusive, with the post holder being required to be cooperative and flexible within the department. Reasonable training and support will be given when new duties and activities are to be carried out.

**Skills and Experience**
- The HR and Recruitment Officer will be proactive and comfortable working with a wide population of managers
- Confident communicator with excellent written and oral skills
- Confident speaking with people on the telephone and making arrangements
- Effective and efficient administrator, sharing information with managers in a timely manner
- Can represent the company in a positive light when communicating with applicants
- Good IT skills, especially Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word

**Qualifications**
- No formal qualifications are required
- However, it would be beneficial if the post holder was working towards an appropriate HR qualification, or would be open to doing so eg. HNC, BA, CIPD
- A positive and able aptitude are the key requirements coupled with the above noted skills and experiences
