**Hours: PT - 30 hours a week with 2 days office based**

The Royal Orthopaedic Charity (ROC) supports the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) and healthcare facilities for patients. It raises, manages, and distributes funds on behalf the Royal Orthopaedic Foundation Trust. The charity operates under the NHS Foundation Trust under corporate trusteeship, with a Charitable Funds Committee (CFC) to manage day-to-day operations and is accountable to the Charity Commission.

ROC has a small but effective team who are focused and dedicated on raising necessary funds for the NHS as a rare specialist hospital and ultimately delivering the charity strategy to take the hospital from “functional to fabulous” in terms of health facilities and comfort as well as heightening the profile of the ROH and the charity.

Key result areas:

- Grow a network of relevant trusts, companies, and foundations through extensive research creating a funnel of potential grant & funding opportunities.
- Produce quarterly reports about trusts & grants activity for funders, the charity manager, and the board as appropriate.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:
**Communication**
- Proactively work with line managers across the trust to understand the needs of their departments/ services and how the charity can support them.
- Develop good working relationship with all Trustees, Leadership and department staff with whom the job interacts.
- Relaying accurate and timely information to the fundraising team, Deputy Director of Strategy and Head of Communications and Charity Trustees on a regular basis. Effectively communicating with clinical and non-clinical staff within the hospital and donors and fundraisers.
- Be able to summarise and present complex and sensitive information and proposals both internally and externally.
- Develop key relationships with the Corporate Trustee’s to enable effective communication for charity developments and governance particularly highlighting areas of improvement to Trustee knowledge and charity experience.
- Work closely with service line managers to understand the needs of the services and how the charity can support them. Keep up to date with the hospital’s work, key priorities, and future plans, to effectively match with supporters’ interests and identify opportunities for support.
- Use persuading and negotiating skills to generate support from corporates and trustees.
- To attend a range of events including conferences, external meetings, seminars and

presentations that will inspire audiences to engage with the charity.
- Ensure successful account management - meet existing donors as required and develop positive longstanding relationships.

**Analytical**
- Follow up with departments and services to ensure projects deliver the outcomes the funding was granted for.
- Share and propose new ideas for improvement or opportunities with the wider team to support overall fundraising strategy.
- Keep up to date with the hospital’s work, key priorities, and strategy, to effectively identify opportunities for support.

**Planning and Organisation**
- Develop an annual plan to grow the charity’s grant and trust income stream.
- Contribute to the charity’s annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed by the Deputy Director of Strategy and Head of Communications and the Charity Board.
- Manage stewardship of grant and funds donors including thank you letters as well as keeping them informed of further opportunities.
- Attend a range of events as required by ROC including external meetings and presentations.
- Establish the key gaps in knowledge of the Corporate Trustee’s and take lead on developing a plan for training.
- Working alongside the Director of Governance and external consultants deliver the trustee training program. Ensuring any new Trustees are onboarded in a timely manner.
- Provide quarterly reviews of progress to the Director of Governance and Deputy Director of Strategy and Head of Communications
- Responsible for creating documentation of key information regarding how the charity is governed for all existing and new trustees.

**Policy and Service Development**
- Where necessary assist with funding proposals for corporate partnerships and major donors.
