**Clinical**: Be a confident practitioner in leading a service that is provided with support from the wider MDT within the Trust. Provide evidence-based specialist advice and support relating to resuscitation issues to guide the Trust against national guidance and also staff, patients and relatives. Carry a hospital crash bleep, attend cardiac arrest and medical emergencies and provide specialist resuscitation knowledge where appropriate. As part of the resuscitation team provide advanced life support skills based on specialist knowledge and experience, and to act as Team Leader where necessary.
Where appropriate support the team leader in the assessment and prioritisation for patients in clinical situations of peri /cardiopulmonary arrest, providing resuscitation knowledge. Exposure to occasional distressing or emotional situations. Debrief and support colleagues following distressing situations (as appropriate) and at the earliest opportunity. Use experience and specialist knowledge to draw upon areas of good practice and identify areas of improvement.
Maintain a high clinical profile within the Trust, giving support to the resuscitation team of the day and clinical link workers. Support wards and departments to assess and advise on emergency equipment and procedures using specialist knowledge. Ensure the health and safety of all staff, patients and relatives in relation to all resuscitation equipment use, acting immediately in the event of any potential hazards arising. Act immediately upon any unsafe practice being identified and submit relevant documentation.
Liaise with risk services as necessary where risk is identified. Manual handling operations should be avoided or modified so as to ensure a safe system of work. As a trainer in resuscitation the post holder will supervise staff simulating CPR and advanced resuscitation procedures. These procedures carry some risk even in a training environment (i.e.: defibrillation, cannulation and manual handling) and appropriate supervision must be maintained.
Education and Training Lead and develop an education and training programme to ensure all staff meet Resuscitation Council UK requirements and medical devices training profile. Delivery of a resuscitation training service that meets the NHSLA standards and keep appropriate records. Maintain the Trust as a provider of nationally accredited courses in resuscitation. Maintain national instructor status / expert status, registered with the Resuscitation Council UK.
Work with administrative support to maintain & monitor accurate computerised records of training and ensure that any problems or deficiencies are acted upon. Ensure that all training equipment required is available and in working order acting upon any issues where appropriate. Work with the trust Clinical Education Team Leader to encourage collaboration and assurance of best practice. Lead, manage and develop the HLS, ILS and medical device link Trainers within the trust ensuring they remain up to date.
Operational / Management Chair the monthly Resuscitation and Deteriorating Patient Committee meetings providing structure and leadership to this committee in guiding the trusts vision for the resuscitation service and upwardly report from this meeting to provide assurance to the board of the Trust. Provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information as part of the role and report to the Resuscitation and Deteriorating Patient Committee meetings. Attend meetings, disseminating information to other members of relevant services as required. Support the purchase of suitable resuscitation equipment across the trust.
Stay up to date with current regulatory requirements from the Resuscitation Council and other relevant bodies such as the CQC. Ensure relevant complaints are dealt with promptly and courteously in accordance with Trust policy and the standards expected within the service. Promote trust attendance at mandatory training and update sessions. Raise awareness of attendance requirements.
Review trust resuscitation policies or service changes across the trust, based on risk assessment, national standards and expert professional judgement. Daily computer use is required for the role to record, manage and maintain sensitive patient data on the appropriate systems. Follow up and investigate adverse resuscitation incidents and recommend action using specialist knowledge where appropriate, working closely with the governance department. Act immediately upon any unsafe practice being identified and submit relevant documentation and refer to appropriate Patient Safety Specialist and Departmental managers.
