Radiology Department Assistant

King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill, radiology department is looking for a radiology department assistant (RDA).
Our Denmark Hill site is a busy trauma centre and radiography is crucial to the smooth running of the hospital's emergency department(ED), and patients from all over the hospital. You will be working in inpatient x-ray, outpatient x-ray and ED x-ray. It is essential you enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
This is an important role that has responsibility in co-ordinating the the flow of patients to and from x-ray, as well as helping Radiographers to maintain the workflow within the main department.

As a major trauma centre and teaching hospital we a busy hospital with many specialities.
The role will consist of working in x-ray liaising with wards, porters, Radiographers and radiologists, booking appointments, assisting with infection control procedures, ensure patients are prepared for their examinations, and getting procedural rooms ready for the day. You will also be expected to assist patients to change, replenish stock and answer telephone queries.
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate compassion, care, commitment and effective communication and organisational skills. A high standard of IT, written and oral skills is essential.
You will have the opportunity to use your initiative to build your skills and experience, with full training provided.
This post is located in London at our Denmark Hill site in Camberwell and offers a rotation through trauma x-ray, in-patient and out-patient x-ray. You will be required to work 08:00-18:00 or 10:00-20:00 shifts, 4 days a week, Monday to Friday.

Communication
- Receive and welcome patients and staff to the relevant Radiology reception areas and deal with any enquiries in a kind and courteous manner.
- Communicate effectively with staff within and outside of the department to ensure the smooth operation of the service including liaison with ward staff.
- Give factual information to patients regarding examinations and understand the necessary preparations.
- To liaise with superintendents and consultants regarding work schedules and exam protocols including asking the Radiographers to vet and protocol radiology examinations and pass to Radiologists if there is a query.
- Report incidents, accidents and complaints to a senior radiographer or superintendent radiographer.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Report any patient concerns to a radiographer.
- Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies and ensure you are aware of cardiac arrest procedures and cardiac arrest trolley audits and checks.
- Provide a high standard of personal patient care.
- Keep clinical areas tidy and stocked with appropriate equipment.
- Assist radiographers and patients within the examination room.
- Assist with manual handling of patients including patient transfers to x-ray beds.
- Ensure waiting areas are tidy and when appropriate co-ordinate patients to ensure social distancing.
- Assist with patient hygiene when necessary.
- Take patients and visitors temperatures when necessary
Administrative, Information Systems and Data Management
- Be proficient in using Microsoft and be able to learn to use radiology software competently and safely.
- Accurately check patient personal details and update the demographics for patients either booking Radiology or attending for an appointment according to Trust ID procedure.
