Key tasks and Responsibilities for the post: Assume autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, evaluation and discharge of clients. To provide consultation within Plymouth CAMHS, Plymouth Childrens social care and other external agencies. Make a clinical formulation based on a specialist assessment of needs including the assessment of risk.
Design and implement Care Plans around clients mental health/psychological needs taking care to monitor effectiveness and outcome. Undertake risk assessments of clients devising, communicating and implementing risk management strategies. Where appropriate, providing advice to others about risk management of young people referred to the team. To deliver treatment approaches which are informed by reference to good practice guidelines and NICE guidance and which fall within ones area of expertise and competence.
Deliver individual, group or family work and provide advice and consultation according to the needs of children, their carers and the wider system. Participate and lead in joint complex assessments and intervention with colleagues from other disciplines and agencies, as well as other colleagues within the wider CAMHS department. To work as an independent practitioner and have regular clinical professional supervision on their caseload in accordance with good practice guidelines. Work as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist/Clinical Psychologist or equivalent therapeutic modality within your professional guidelines & overall framework of Service policies & procedures, in conjunction with a clinical supervisor(s) and line manager.
Assess safeguarding issues for own caseload and communicate concerns, referring and/or joint working as appropriate. Access safeguarding supervision as and when needed. Offer safeguarding supervision to other clinicians within the Looked after Child pathway and the wider CAMHS service as and when needed. (Training will be provided) Communicate complex and emotionally difficult information in a clear, skilled and sensitive manner.
Demonstrate expertise, sensitivity and professionalism in attendance at multi-disciplinary meetings or when offering consultation where there may be a conflict of opinion or priority. Work in community settings as dictated by the clients need. To work alongside other agencies on the promotion of resilience and management of risk particularly at times of transition for this client group. To lead on specific projects as agreed by the team.
Work with other agencies with the aim of promoting children and young peoples psychological well-being, education and social circumstances. Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication (written and verbal) with other professional agencies and department. Be responsible for adhering to the administrative procedures within Livewell Southwest CAMHS, including keeping clear & up to date case notes. Utilise research skills for audit, policy & service development.
Assist with teaching & training activities. Clinical responsibility: Be responsible for high quality evidence-based assessment and treatment to service users referred into the Psychotherapy and other modalities within CAMHS. To participate in a team approach to working with highly complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. Manage emotional situations with sensitivity, skill and have an understanding of unconscious processes.
Recognise need for additional mental health team input where appropriate. Undertake risk assessment and management with service users in line with principles of child psychoanalytic psychotherapy/clinical psychology/therapeutic modality and in conjunction with a clinical supervisor. Engage and communicate with service users and carers sensitively and clearly over sustained periods of time. Understand, contain and manage severe difficulties with communication, including unconscious factors, and high levels of emotional disturbance and arousal.
Engage and communicate with service users across a wide range of social, language and cultural barriers. Engage and communicate with interpreters and advocates for service users about the specific needs of users of specialist CAMHS services. Receive and utilise regular clinical supervision of work in accordance with good practice guidelines. Maintain relevant and up-to-date clinical records.
Ensure that the outcome of assessment and treatment is communicated appropriately to referring and other agencies. Execute such responsibility with sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues concerning confidentiality and risk assessment/management.
