The Infant Mental Health Practitioner role sits within The Infant Mental Health Pathway within The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Plymouth working to a model of delivery that meets the needs of Infants, children, young people and families in the city. We are looking to recruit an Infant Mental Health Practitioner into our Infant Mental Health Pathway to work with children 0-5 years and their families. The direct work will cover the 0-5 years’ age range with consultations with families & professionals and delivering training when required. The team is a community-based, innovative and needs-led response to infants, young children and families across the full care pathway.

To work as an Infant Mental health practitioner to deliver consultation, assessment and interventions working with infants & young children from 0-5 years old and their parents/ carers. Co-ordination and implementation of evidence-based targeted interventions incorporating outcome measures. To co-ordinate and contribute to assessment to ensure that infants and young children access timely assessments and the appropriate targeted interventions. Take a lead in representing CAMHS in multi-agency meetings and have oversight of mental health element of a multi-agency plan around a child.

To function as a member of the Infant Mental Health Pathway taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team. Maintain standards of care to highest level within available resources. To actively participate in line management with senior and junior members of staff. To liaise effectively with the other CAMHS community teams across the city.

To develop and maintain relationships with providers, statutory and non-statutory. To maintain confidentiality in respect of the Infant, Children and Families at all times. Communicate clearly with children and young people, their families and all other health professional groups about their mental health problems. Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, e.g.

clinical audit, essence of care or clinical policy development. Deliver group work to patients and/or families of patients. Deliver training to staff both within and external to Livewell when indicated and within scope of experience The post holder will be responsible for updating their own practice, knowledge and skills within their sphere of practice including Livewell Southwest mandatory training. Expert ability in receiving information, analysing and formulating professional judgments.

The post holder will provide assessment and other interventions in the setting most appropriate to meet the children and young people’s needs. Ability to match children & infants need with available skills and resources. Take a lead in assessments and detailed observations in nursery settings and in the home. Formulate plans for appropriate short-term intervention or to sign post to other team members or external, relevant services.

Making appropriate agreed referrals for longer-term treatment as appropriate. Take a lead role in clinical decision-making and collaborating with other team members in the provision of infant, children and families care packages. Ensure the on-going effective use of routine outcome monitoring in line with CYP IAPT. Take a lead role in the identification of risk and the formulation of risk management plans.

Provide education to families to enhance their knowledge of infant mental health issues and management of this. Promote resilience and prevention of mental health issues. Maintain high standards of clinical care to infants; young children and their families. To liaise and work with other CAMHS teams to ensure the needs of children and met by the right team, on the right pathway at the right time.

Provide support & supervision to new members of staff and students from a variety of disciplines. Freedom to Act: The post holder will be individually accountable for their practice in accordance with the NMC professional Code of Conduct or HCPC. The post holder will actively participate in line management supervision with the Team Manager of the Team. The post holder will actively participate in clinical supervision in accordance with Livewell Southwest policy.

The post holder will actively participate in the Livewell Southwest appraisal system. The post holder will carry out other duties commensurate with the position as required.Mental Effort: Accurate manual and electronic record keeping whilst coping with constant interruptions and distraction in the work place for example: telephone calls and questions from colleagues. Constantly deal with sensitive, intricate and complex clinical and service decisions whilst frequently being required to change from one activity to another at a third party request, i.e. Telephone or staff interruption and be able to respond in a positive and constructive manner to emergency situations.
