Targeted Youth Co-ordinator**
**Grade 8: £46,041 - £50,031 per annum**
**Term**:Permanent, full-time (36hrs)**
If you are an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about providing support to the young people of Havering
- we want to hear from you
**About the Job**
Based within the Early Help Service; Havering Youth Influence and Participation Service work with children and young people aged 10 - 18 years (up to 25 years with Special Educational Needs).
The team deliver both open access and targeted youth work sessions from the MyPlace Centre as well as other community venues. There is a provision for young people with SEND. The team also hosts the Children in Care Youth Club, Youth Parliament, and coordinates trips and activities for young people in the borough. There is a detached youth work offer, which takes place in known “hotspots” across the borough. 1 to 1 targeted casework is completed with young people who are at risk of exploitation to improve their confidence and reduce risk factors.
The team has a key role in ensuring the voices of young people are heard and their views inform service delivery.
As the Target Youth Coordinator, you will be expected to hold a caseload of young people providing 1 to 1 targeted casework, as well as managing a team of Target Youth Support Practitioners and Youth Support Workers.
**About Us**
Havering is a London borough like no other. Located in Zone 6, we are in close proximity to both the hustle and bustle of the city and the surrounding Essex countryside. Boasting attractive green spaces and fantastic schools, it is no wonder that we have one of the fastest growing child populations in the country, and our community is becoming increasingly diverse. We are also unique in our political makeup, with Havering Residents’ Association working in co-operation with the Labour Group to make Havering an even better place to live and work. We have a strong corporate agenda and are embedding an increasingly insight-driven culture, which we think makes this a very exciting time to join us.
We are committed to seeing life through the eyes of young people in Havering. We promote positive language and attitudes toward young people, their networks and communities. Co-production is at the heart of our work, and young people’s voices are at the centre of the design and delivery of our service. We provide support that improves outcomes for children and young people between 10 and 18 years old, and up to 25 for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Our core aim is to safeguard children and young people who may be at risk of harm outside of their family and home. In recent years, we have seen an increase in the exploitation of children and young people in Havering. We use techniques like information sharing between agencies and data analysis to identify those young people who may be at risk of exploitation. We then work with young people to protect them from harm and improve their life chances.
Our preventative approach to support and intervention with young people is informed by our understanding of:
- The impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences
- Young people’s experiences of risk in places and people outside of family, home and school
- The power of language and relationship-based practice
- You will join us in taking a Child First and trauma-informed approach in promoting supportive family relationships, enhanced emotional regulation, improved outcomes, healthier lifestyles and delivering positive activities.
You will have the ability to build and sustain relationships with young people in a range of contexts and settings and take account of the complex lives young people live and bring about positive change.
Havering Youth Influence and Participation Service is part of an integrated and systemic model of working across the borough. Working with colleagues from across our local partnership you will offer support and deliver programmes and detached outreach provision with young people from the wider Havering Community.
**About You**
As Target Youth Co-ordinator you will,
- Have significant experience of working with young people, with an understanding of the range of issues that impact on their lives and experiences.
- Bring some experience of managing and motivating a team.
- Have the ability to develop relationships with staff from other teams, departments and external agencies including schools/alternative provisions.
- Work in partnership with Children’s Services, Education, Voluntary Sector and Housing.
- Demonstrate curiosity about the needs of Havering’s youth population.
- Have an understanding of contextual safeguarding and risks associated with extra-familial harm.
- Be passionate about co-production with young people to co-create and design services to meet their needs.
- Be prepared to undertake some evening and weekend work as needed.
