Practice Lead

Birmingham, United Kingdom Advanced Full time

Role Introduction:
As the Practice Lead you will be responsible for managing a team of specialists in your area. You will ensure that the practice provides technical strategy and leadership, and you will oversee the quality of presales, architecture and delivery work provided by the practice. This is a ‘player manager’ role, meaning you will retain some individual contributor responsibility alongside managing the team and the practice area.

What You Will Do:

- Manage and lead a team of consultants, architects and engineers specialised in your practice area, providing presales and delivery services for ITO customers
- Continue your work as an individual contributor, whether that is presales or delivery, maintaining a good balance with your management responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with key customers
- Create an environment where people feel supported, and can thrive and work at their best
- Drive revenue growth and profitability in your practice area and its associated managed services
- Manage the capacity of the team; ensuring we can deliver against pipeline whilst supporting sales with new opportunities and maintaining margins
- Manage the development and promotion of technical strategy, best practice, standards and thought leadership from your practice area. (For clarity, managing this does not mean you need to be the primary contributor; you should be comfortable managing technical contributors who may have far deeper expertise than you).
- Ensure the quality of the work delivered by the team, manage performance with individuals where necessary, and balance utilisation with the individual development
- Maintain a strong and close partnership with your team’s operational counterparts; you will maintain a tight feedback loop between operations and design, promote ‘operability-by-design’ principles, and ensure operational contribution to all elements of strategy and best practice.
- Collaborate with other Practice Leads and their respective teams to maintain alignment between the practice areas
- Provide good and effective reporting, promoting transparency, and allowing meaningful discussion around progress, successes, blockers, and risks

What You Will Have:

- Demonstrated capability and expertise in your area of practice
- Strong understanding of knowledge of security best practices
- A proven willingness to challenge mediocre
- Ideally, previous experience of managing people. Otherwise, a strong understanding of what this will entail, potentially developed through the Advanced Future Managers programme or through your own independent learning
- Experience of mentoring and/or coaching, and a desire to continually develop and support others in this way
- Effective time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritise under pressure
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to devise and implement strategies beneficial to Advanced and our clients
- Be self-motivated, tenacious, disciplined, enthusiastic and resilient.
- A thirst for knowledge; constantly keeping abreast of the latest technologies and market trends
- A customer-centric mindset with a clear understanding of how technology and services translate into business value for Advanced’s Customers
- Strong commercial acumen and a good understanding of Advanced’s business model
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Able to operate at all levels and articulate messages to a variety of different audiences, including complex technical concepts.
