An exciting opportunity has arisen for a position within the Major Incident Room (MIR) based at Bishopsgate Police Station.
The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil any of the specified roles within the MIR to further investigations. The roles are Document Reader, Receiver, Exhibits Officer, Disclosure Officer and Action Manager, using HOLMES software.
This is a challenging and responsible role for a Detective Constable and as you would expect, teamwork, communication, commitment and computer skills are highly desirable qualities.
The applicant may also be involved in the preparation and training of members of staff and volunteers in MIR and Casualty Bureau functions.
The successful post holder will report to a Detective Sergeant and have the opportunity to receive training in order to complete the above and be expected to work extended hours when required.
**Description of Department**:
The Major Incident Room (MIR), a force-wide resource, is at the forefront of Major Investigations involving high risk areas of policing including murder, attempted murder and serious assaults, manslaughter, work related deaths, suspicious deaths, complex fraud, serious public disorder, kidnap, abduction, blackmail, stranger rape and historical and institutional child abuse.
The MIR receives information, assesses and analyses it, directs the outside team with action based lines of enquiry and provides the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) with an accurate record of all relevant information relating to the investigation, together with the enquiries made and results obtained.
The MIR team is also responsible for the smooth running of the Casualty Bureau (CB), the initial single point of contact for receiving and assessing information about people believed to be involved in a mass fatality incident.
The team have been actively involved in all the CB activations of recent years, Westminster Bridge, Manchester arena, London Bridge Terror attacks, Grenfell Tower Fire tragedy, and Fishmongers Hall in 2019, often working long hours and in a highly pressurised and emotive environment.
**Essential Criteria**:
- Must be enthusiastic and able to operate under pressure dealing with risk and serious and complex cases
- Possess excellent communication and management skills
- An ability to manage a workload in a calm, efficient and organised manner
- Be able to engage colleagues, witnesses, victims and partners in a professional, sensitive, patient and impartial manner.
- Willingness to learn and be an effective, committed officer within a successful unit and become an integral member of the team
- Previous investigative experience or courses in this field
**Desirable Criteria**:
- Knowledge of serious and complex case work
- Working knowledge of HOLMES (although training will be provided)
- Knowledge of Excel
- Conversant with methods of exhibit recovery
