This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual interested in pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology. You will be joining a developing Neuropsychology Unit that supports acute Neurology and Neurosurgery services within the Clinical Neuroscience Directorate at Derriford Hospital.

You will have the opportunity to develop clinical and research skills under supervision, through undertaking neuropsychological assessment of patients with a wide range of brain disorders, some therapeutic work and participation in clinical research projects. Applicants should have a good Psychology Degree (2:1 or first), an interest in Neuropsychology and an enthusiasm to learn and work as part of a busy team. High levels of communication skills, computer competency and organisation are essential. Previous experience of working in a mental or physical health setting and competency in SPSS is an advantage.

**Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.**

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of neurology and neurosurgery patients within the department of neurosciences. To contribute to providing neuropsychological and psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and research projects, teaching and project work.

1. To undertake protocol based neuropsychological and psychological assessments of neurology and neurosurgery patients. This will include administering psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and carers.
2. To score neuropsychological assessments and prepare reports under the supervision of the neuropsychologist.
3. To feedback specialist opinions to patients, families carers and other professionals under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
4. To assist in the formulation and delivery of individual and group psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
5. To assist in the inputting of neuropsychological data into a computerised database and to take responsibility for the maintenance of the database.
6. To assist in the organisation of the out-patient waiting list.
7. To plan and prioritise own workload in respect of clinical, research and other activities.
8. To attend and participate in all relevant clinical and professional meetings.

Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
1. To participate and contribute to meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
2. To assist in the implementation of service development projects as required.
3. To assist in the process of inducting and training new junior clinical psychology and other staff as appropriate, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

**Teaching, training, and supervision**:
1. To contribute to the training and support of other clinical psychology staff including preparation of teaching resources and other materials.
2. To participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis (at least one hour per week).
3. To gain other experience of professional psychology within the NHS through attendance at Clinical psychology meetings and CPD events, training days and assistant psychology meetings.
4. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
5. To provide support and contribute to the supervision of undergraduate student psychologists on placement.
6. 1. The post-holder will be encouraged to seek peer support from other psychology assistants as well as qualified clinical psychologists in post.
2. To participate in the process of annual appraisal and professional development.
3. To keep up to date CDD log in accordance with BPS requirements and the KSF.

**Research and service evaluation**:
1. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
2. To undertake data collection, analysis, the presentation of reports and summaries, using IT and computerised statistical programmes.
3. To undertake literature searches to assist qualified clinical psychologists in research and service development.
4. To co-operate in project management including audit and service evaluation.

Information technology
