The Role

The Statistics group in the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics carries out world-class research in modern statistics and data science, with strengths in Bayesian methods, computation, biostatistics and spatial statistics. The NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative ensures that better diagnostics are available as quickly as possible for patients, evaluating new diagnostics and working collaboratively with developers to generate a portfolio of evidence as they bring their diagnostics to the UK healthcare market.

We are jointly seeking a Research Associates/Assistant in biostatistics to work across a range of methodological and applied projects in the broad area of diagnostics, with a focus on Bayesian methods in the design and analysis of diagnostic studies.

The position has a fixed duration of 33 months.

Key Accountabilities
The role is at the Research Associate/Assistant level, based across the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics (MSP) in the Faculty of Science Agriculture and Engineering and the NIHR Newcastle In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative (MIC) in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
You will undertake a schedule of work across multiple ongoing projects, working with Dr Kevin Wilson (MSP), Dr Clare Lendrem (MIC) and other researchers as appropriate, including those on the SaFEGen team.

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Expertise in Bayesian inference
- Advanced programming skills in R
- Experience of writing research papers for high-quality peer reviewed journals

Desirable
- Expertise in statistical methods in diagnostics
- Expertise in statistical methods in clinical trials
