**Vulnerable children in the UK need your help**

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

**Why Action for Children?**

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

**A bit about the role**

Family First is a new service that will work to The Promise and Whole Family Approach Framework. The service will support families and children aged 0-10yrs who have been or are affected by Alcohol and Drugs. To achieve this you'll have an understanding of the Promise Principles and be committed to the Whole Family Approach way of supporting families.

You'll work closely with the Family First Team and support the Mentoring Coordinator to offer additional mentoring support to the children and families.

The Young Persons Practitioner role will focus on supporting our Volunteer Coordinator in two key areas;
- Organising family and group activities. Experience in working with families with younger children would be an advantage along with the ability to organise safe and fun activities. Also an understanding of health and safety, risk assessments associated with delivering the activities will be required.
- Recruiting and training peer mentors which is an important part of the role. Previous experience in delivering training would be an advantage along with an understanding of the impact alcohol and drugs can have on children and families.

**How you'll help to create brighter futures**

We're looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, passionate person who can share in our vision of supporting and developing families resilience through a trauma skilled lens building on the strengths they have to join our fantastic team.

You'll make a great difference in the lives of the children and families by;
- Offering a trauma informed, rights based, relational approach.
- Listening to them, we promote their strengths and assets and what matters to them and ensure that young people's needs are identified.
- Offering timely, responsive support to reduce the risk of problems escalating.
- Preparing written reports to contribute to the wider Childs Plan.
- Representing the organisation at partnership meetings.

**Let's talk about you**
- An open-minded, non-judgemental personality as you will be working with people that are at a vulnerable point in their lives.
- Flexible working due to some activities being in the evenings and weekends.
- A UK driving licence and a willingness to travel due to the large rural catchment area.
- To work cross functionally with other services within Gael Og to ensure that Action for Children's Values and strategic objectives are achieved.
- To guide and support less experienced staff.
