Full Time - Fixed term for 12 months

As a Community Health Inequalities Officer, you will play a crucial role in addressing health disparities within our community. You'll collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including voluntary sector organisations, healthcare partners, and local authorities, to make a meaningful impact on the lives of marginalised groups. Further development plans are in place and we need you to help us achieve them.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

We support hybrid working, it’s important to us that working arrangements are designed to enable our employees to excel and within this role you’ll have the opportunity to work in a way that suits your lifestyle.

**About the role**

As our Community Health Inequalities Officer, you'll work alongside the Community Health Champions Lead and Coordinator to create and implement initiatives that tackle health inequalities. You'll engage with various community members, analyse disparities, and develop strategies to improve health outcomes.

This role involves partnering with organisations like the Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality (ACRE) to manage the Community Health Champions program. You'll also support the Neighbourhoods and Partnerships Manager in addressing wider determinants of health, community engagement, and capacity building for early interventions.

You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.

Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success. Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:
**Work Together as one team - **work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do.

**Drive Efficiency - **show initiative, be adaptable to change and put forward ideas to help improve delivery and efficiency. Take responsibility for our own learning and development and for reaching our potential.

**Be Ambitious - **be demanding of our own performance - striving to be even better - and be prepared to engage with and challenge leaders in a constructive and positive way.

**Make a Difference to Reading - **maintain the highest levels of customer service and be flexible and willing to provide the services needed at the time they are needed.

**About you**

We're looking for someone with a passion for health equity and community development. You should hold a degree in Public Health, community development, social work, or a related field, along with experience in a community or public health setting. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as you'll be collaborating with diverse groups.

Your ability to work autonomously, lead meetings, analyse data, and prioritize tasks will be crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is necessary. Being self-motivated is important, as you'll engage directly within the local community and motivate others.

If you have a deep commitment to reducing health inequalities, a collaborative spirit, and the skills to make a real impact, we encourage you to apply.

**Specific requirements**
- Educated to degree level in Public Health, community development, social work, or a related field or equivalent.
- Advanced experience working in a community or public health-related setting.
