York, United Kingdom City of York Council Full time

Are you passionate about ensuring our residents have a safe and good quality place to live? Are you professionally motivated by a desire to reduce inequalities? Do you work well in partnership with others and are you a strong communicator? If so, this could be the role for you.

The City of York Council are committed to investing into our Gypsy and Traveller accommodation. This will include both improving existing accommodation and the sites’ associated spaces and facilities and developing additional accommodation to meet an identified need. This role will ensure that we deliver the right solutions for our residents and achieve good value for money. Solutions will be developed in partnership with members of the Gypsy and Traveller community and will be informed by an up-to-date stock condition survey.

This role will also provide support and guidance to ensure that additional Gypsy and Traveller accommodation is developed in the city by the private sector and that this is of good quality and meets the needs of our residents.

This is a crucial role to enable the council to deliver on its objectives. This role will sit within our Investment team but will benefit from significant support from across the Housing and wider council team. You will have access to information, support and mentoring related to building new accommodation, compliance and health and safety activities, planned improvement programmes, procurement and legal considerations, equalities, and policy development. We appreciate that this is a wide role and we do not expect all applicants to have experience in all areas. What is important is that you approach each task with a ‘can do’ attitude. You will need to communicate effectively and be a team player who is keen to collaborate with partners both within and outside of the council. Project Management training is available if required to help you feel confident in managing the workstreams associated with this role.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. You will be expected to make visits to assess land opportunities as well as visiting our existing Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation sites to fully familiarise yourself with these assets and to help form positive working relationships with residents of these sites.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
