**Job summary**:
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 9,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, firefighters and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. As such using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.

The Army’s Information Directorate provides the Chief Information Officer function for the Army, leads the Army’s digitalisation, delivers information exploitation services and orchestrates the delivery of digital programmes. The directorate also provides leadership and coherence across the Cyber and Electro-Magnetic Activities (CEMA), Intelligence and Security functions in the Army. The Director’s vision is: Information is valued, exploited and protected as a critical Army asset to maximise advantage in a trusted Single Information Environment.

The Information Directorate has core staff that leads digitalisation and information exploitation services while delivery of specific capability programmes is led by the Programmes Directorate. The functional leadership for three areas: CEMA, intelligence and security, are federated enterprises across multiple parts of the Army although there are nominated 1* leads for each. The Hd of Cyber, Intelligence and Security is also the Senior responsible owner (SRO) for the Land CEMA Programme. The nominated functional lead for intelligence is also the SRO for the Land Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) programme.

**Job description**:
Director Information intends to increase coherence across their functional leadership responsibilities by having a single focus to track, cohere, collate and assure the work that is done across the Army Headquarters.

The post holder will be directly accountable to the 2* Director Information to coordinate the implementation of direction and policy, to prepare inputs to Army and Defence-level forums, and to assist in thought leadership by synthesising inputs from the federated functional leadership organisation to provide expert guidance, insights, knowledge management and support. The post will have no management responsibility for personnel.

**Main Responsibilities and Desirables**:

- Engage with the functional networks at OF5 level, providing the Army’s functional interface into governance structures such as: the Defence Function of Intelligence governance; the Defence Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Strategy implementation team; and the (soon to be established) UK Strategic Command Cyber and Electro-Magnetic Directorate.
- Track key governance events, prepare senior Army attendees, and lead on cohering any resulting actions.
- Energise and cohere the federated functional lead teams within Army HQ and HQ Fd Army to build shared situational awareness, coherence, efficiency and a shared sense of purpose.
- Establish and maintain a knowledge management mechanism for functional coherence.
- Provide input to wider policy and governance in related areas.
- Support the Army Competent Authority and Inspectorate for Land Intelligence Collection in understanding their scope of responsibilities, delivery requirements and levers, and in delivering against their assurance responsibilities.
