The Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery is a new post, being a key member of the senior triumvirate leadership team within the Women’s and Children’s (WACS) Care Group. Assisting the Director of Midwifery (DOM) and the Deputy Chief Nurse (DCNO) in the implementation of the corporate nursing and midwifery agenda; taking a specific strategic lead were requested on allocated cross Care Groups and corporate roles.
You will work under the professional direction of the DOM and the DCNO, providing professional guidance, support and leadership to all nursing and midwifery staff to ensure patient safety, service quality and excellent patient experience is consistently maintained.
Whilst our hospital site, The Royal Lancaster Infirmary has been specified as the base for this post we would welcome applicants who may wish to consider their base at one of our other main hospital sites, Furness General Hospital, Barrow-in-Furness or Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal.
Accountable for ensuring the appropriate management and leadership of the nursing / midwifery teams, holding matrons, ward and department leaders and clinical practitioners to account to ensure that organisational performance indicators, Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and quality indicators are monitored, and appropriate timely action is taken according to results.
Providing professional, strategic and operational leadership across the Care Group (both hospital and community services) ensuring optimum standards of care delivered through effective management of human, financial and physical resources.
Acting as a strong advocate for women, babies, children and young people and their families, ensuring that a culture of continuous improvement and learning is supported to drive quality care delivery across the Care Group and facilitate the development of clinical practice, to ensure excellent care. Involvement in the quality and safety agenda is another key component of the role.
As an experienced, highly motivated NMC registrant with excellent leadership skills who is looking to take the next step to expanding their leadership experience at a Care Group level. You will be required to work across all the whole WACS Care Group including; Maternity, Women's, Children's and Young People’s services, providing responsive, compassionate and visible leadership. You will be significantly involved both in the operational and strategical planning and delivery of these services.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
