**Academic Development Programme**:

- new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.

It is an exciting time for CAP as we consider how to develop further a dynamic an integrated suite of programmes that will provide challenging and contemporary professional training that is forward-looking and equips our graduates with the skills needed to thrive as members of the mental health and applied psychology workforce.

The post will be based in the Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Birmingham. The Centre for Applied Psychology is staffed by Clinical, Forensic, and Research psychologists who support a broad range of teaching and research including Professional Doctoral programmes in Clinical, Forensic, and Forensic-Clinical Psychology. We also provide an MSci Psychology and Psychological Practice, as well as a range of other accredited programmes leading to qualifications in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Our Centre for Applied Psychology is an integral part of our School. We are a community of over 140 academic and research staff, and we support a cohort of over 1300 students and trainees on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and vibrant research and teaching environment in which everyone in our community can flourish. The clinical doctorate programme is well integrated with clinical psychology services in Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country, where clinical psychology is a strong and well-developed profession.

**Role Summary**

You will contribute to a range of education-related activities. In addition, you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.

You will contribute to the full range of placement-related, teaching and administration duties on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate as well as, where appropriate, other courses delivered by the School of Psychology.

We will consider appropriately qualified Clinical Psychologist applicants at the level of Assistant Professor who are interested in the role of Clinical Tutor and who will contribute to the development and delivery of the Clinical Psychology Doctorate through shared leadership, teaching, marking, appraisal, supervisor liaison, and with opportunities for research activities (support for trainees and the opportunity for personal research within the constraints of an education

The focus of the clinical tutor, placement-related, component of the role will predominantly include: (1) liaison with external stakeholders (e.g., Trusts, non-NHS services, supervisors, managers) to assess and appraise the suitability of placements for trainees, (2) contributions to placement organisation and planning with local partners on an ongoing basis, (3) development, delivery and evaluation of supervisor training, (4) appraising, reviewing and overseeing trainees’ clinical competences development as benchmarked against relevant professional and regulatory bodies, and (5) supporting the clinical placement activity of trainees, their more general placement experiences over the course of training, and the quality of placement provision. A demonstrable appetite and evidence of aptitude for acting as a clinical tutor for placement-related work, clinical supervisor liaison, and overseeing trainee competency development, is required.

Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the development, management, and leadership of module / sub-courses (including programme/module review) and delivery of teaching and assessment at postgraduate level; (b) supervisor training / workshops; (c) enhancement of the student experience or employability; (d) contributing to the marking of academic work of trainees; and (e) opportunities to support trainee research projects. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks, approaches, and methods.
