What you'll do

As the Head of Buying Centre of Excellence at Sainsbury's, you will play a pivotal leadership role within the commercial team. Collaborating with other Heads of Buying and Buying teams, you will drive the development and implementation of the multi-year Supplier planning and COGs margin growth plan. Leading and developing a team of buyers, you will work towards achieving financial targets that support sales, profit, and market share objectives, while also focusing on the working capital agenda. Your responsibilities will include delivering the Gross Margin challenge and fostering sustained supplier relationships through the development of the Buying Centre of Excellence. With a focus on harmonising supplier business models, terms, and evaluation, you will collaborate with Category Heads of Buying and Global Sourcing to shape supply solutions that yield demonstrable results. Additionally, your role will involve promoting best-practice buying principles, adopting new tools and processes to enhance skills development within the GM Buying community. You will contribute to the creation of a Playbook for strategic supplier relationship planning and value-seeking activities while ensuring a balanced approach to cost optimisation and working capital considerations. By creating consistent Category architectures for Buying teams, you will facilitate the review of the best mix range potential for Brand and Own Brand to drive business growth and profitability. Working with cross-functional teams, you will support key initiatives to unlock value in Retail, Nectar, and additional marketing activities. Your expertise in supply chain review will facilitate the exploration of cost-out opportunities, and you will maintain a customer-focused approach and a passion for product promotion. Leading and energising a large Commercial team, you will ensure alignment with challenging metrics and collaborate with other divisional Heads of Buying, Merchandising, and Global leads to establish a unified view of margin delivery. With your proven track record of commercial success, strong communication skills, and ability to adapt and lead in a complex trading environment, you will coach and inspire high-performing individuals to break new ground and drive ongoing improvements.
