**If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to be part of the largest carbon saving measure cross all of government, and we would love to hear from you**
**Job description**:
The Vehicle Emissions Trading Schemes Order (VETS), delivering the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate, is the Government’s largest single net zero policy and the most ambitious regulation of its kind in the world. We are looking for motivated and capable individuals to join the ZEV regulations team and contribute to the successful delivery of this landmark legislation.
VETS is the regulation that will guide the UK new car and van market’s transition to zero emission vehicles, providing and ambitious but achievable pathway for the automotive industry to meet the Government’s commitment to ending the sale of new non-zero emission cars and vans in 2035. Cars and vans made up 18% of the UK’s total CO2 emissions in 2021, and VETS will play a significant role in reducing that, saving up to 420 million tonnes of CO2 emissions out to 2050.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing regulatory compliance of participants in VETS, working closely with the administration team to ensure that Government and industry meet their legal obligations. The post holders will be responsible for working closely with vehicle manufacturers, colleagues in DfT, and colleagues in arm’s length bodies to meet the legislative requirements brought in by VETS. They will be a crucial part of a highly visible, external facing unit that must command the confidence of both vehicle manufacturers and Ministers. As a new regulation, the post holders will be involved in the development of administrative processes and play a leading role in shaping the Department’s approach to its responsibilities.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
- **Provide advice based on robust evidence**: Collaborate with statisticians, policy officials, analysts, and operational delivery professionals, both within the Department for Transport (DfT) and across government, to advise external stakeholders, officials, and Ministers on the operation of the regulation.
- ** Communicate with key stakeholders**: Work closely with staff in vehicle manufacturers, devolved administrations, broader UK Government, and Ministers to ensure each party understands the impact of the regulation and has confidence in its operation.
