**Job description**:
This innovative role sits within the Portfolio Data & Software Solutions team that supports the Central Portfolio Unit (CPU) and Project Assurance and Investment Approvals team within the Portfolio and Project Delivery Directorate (PPDD). The directorate has responsibility for defining and improving the Department’s approach to delivering all projects and programmes within the DfT Group.

Your role will focus on strengthening the DfT's standard approach to portfolio management, project assurance, and project delivery. This will enable these teams to lead and drive effective project delivery and enhance the Department's ability to secure and deliver long-term benefits for the UK in line with the current unprecedented investment in our transport infrastructure. The Department's ambition is to be best in class and be a showcase for others.

**Responsibilities**

Key accountabilities of the role include:
Developing a PPDD Digital and Data Strategy. Tasks will include:

- ensuring that digital tools are fit for purpose and in line with requirements.
- transforming data into required analysis and insight.
- identifying any risks their required mitigating activity.
- growing digital capability and capacity across the directorate; and
- finding opportunities for the continuous improvement of tools and ways of working.

Leading on the development of digital tools. This role will:

- work with stakeholders across the directorate and department to understand their needs and ensure that potential solutions do not result in duplicative approaches with the Department.
- develop tools that enables colleagues to work in a more effective way and improves their business processes.
- lead of the development of digital tools and their deployment within the DfT’s digital infrastructure, for example in the Google Cloud Platform; and

Support PMOs through:

- providing expert advice and being a centre of excellence on digital processes for PMOs.
- developing PMOs capabilities and capacity for better ways of working.
- working with PPDD colleagues so tools are both aligned of central DfT and government requirements, as well as PMO needs; and
- listening to and engaging with PMOs in a clear and constructive way, including through effective project management and software development best practice.

**Person specification**:

Excellent communication skills are pivotal to this role with the ability to provide guidance and robust recommendations to colleagues, where your exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills will enable you to influence and challenge at all levels.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
