**Job summary**:
To provide an expert role in the surveillance and control of COVID-19 within the UKHSA Clinical and Public Health Group, working as part of a team of Consultant Epidemiologists, and working closely with COVID-19 information, administrative, and scientific staff. The key elements of the role are:

- Surveillance and epidemiological analysis of COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza
- National public health advice and support on epidemiological issues
- Advice and support to professionals on COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza epidemiological analysis
- Promotion of professional standards including training, research, and audit

**Job description**:
The COVID-19 Vaccines and Epidemiology Division has a key role in informing the understanding of the epidemiology of COVID-19 at the national level in order to inform the national vaccination programme and fulfils a number of specialist national functions in the control of COVID-19. The team supports a number of processes which are central to the use of epidemiology response undertaken by UKHSA and other key partners and provides public health expertise to support relevant national vaccination programmes. The role will also support similar work related to Seasonal Influenza.

The Consultant Epidemiologist will work with other consultant and senior epidemiology colleagues to provide senior leadership to the delivery of the division’s epidemiological functions and will have the opportunity to develop epidemiological studies and surveillance systems, working with key stakeholders at the national level.

**Person specification**:
The consultant will take a lead role in the daily reactive on-call service with Scientists, Information Officers, Epidemiology Fellows, Specialist Registrars in Public Health Medicine/Specialist Trainees and admin team.

The consultant will be expected to lead the response to outbreaks of COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza at local and national levels. working with local health protection teams and other stakeholders where required.

To provide epidemiological advice, situational advice and support to senior leadership (such as UKHSA National Incident Director where relevant), CsCDC, DsPH and others involved in the control of COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza at local, regional and national level.

To undertake the surveillance of COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza, both in hospitals and the wider community, at local and national level where required, to ensure that timely and accurate information is available to those involved in the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable disease and infection at local, regional and national levels.
