Worcester is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. It occupies the 26-acre site on the western side of the city where the Benedictines first founded Gloucester College in 1283. The College aims to be forward-looking and has c. 400 undergraduates and c. 200 graduate students; of these 260 students live within the boundaries of the College itself, and a further 200 live in College accommodation located within 300 metres of the College Lodge.

The job holder will be responsible for the following:
1The jobholder will be responsible for:
1. Contributing to the strategic planning and design of IT services supported by the team; this to include consideration of availability, capacity, security, resilience, and disaster recovery.

2. Troubleshooting software and hardware issues in a methodical manner as 2nd/3rd line support.

3. Providing 1st line support for technical issues during times of high volume, staff absence and at other agreed times.

4. Presenting a pleasant, helpful and professional demeanour when dealing with customers.

**Infrastructure (Extreme core and edge switches, Windows servers & some Linux servers)**

1. Take principal responsibility for the College’s ethernet and Aerohive wireless network, including the replacement and reconfiguration of switches and WAPs as appropriate.

2. Take a leading role in the selection, provisioning, installation, configuration and management of departmental IT systems, servers, and infrastructure and their virtualised (VMware) equivalents.

3. Take a leading role in the development and deployment of systems for the management, maintenance, monitoring, debugging and enhancement of departmental IT infrastructure (currently Nagios).

5. Manage the definition, documentation and implementation of operational procedures.

6. Manage appropriate disaster recovery solutions to protect services and data.

**Computers (AD, SCCM, Backups)**

1. Take a leading role in managing endpoint computers, including their configuration with group policies.

3. Ensure the College’s centralised backup solution is maintained and operational.

**Database and Primary Line-of-Business Applications**

2. Proactively research relevant technology roadmaps and provide domain expertise and best practice recommendations around the use and management of SQL Server.

3. Develop scripting of repetitive tasks for efficiency and accuracy.

**Security and Compliance**

1. Contribute to the development and implementation of Department IT policies.

2. Contribute to the implementation of Information Security policy technical controls.

3. Contribute to the management of security incidents within required timeframe.

4. Contribute to the management of auditing policy compliance.

5. Contribute to increasing user awareness and understanding of good security practice.

**Training and career development**

Such other duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the IT Manager in the light of the post-holder’s knowledge and experience.

**Essential selection criteria**

2. Experience of providing IT support in a complex environment.

3. Experience in supporting and management of SQL Server

4. Experience of scripting PowerShell, ASP.net and python.

5. Experience in supporting and management of Windows Server 2016

6. Proven skills and high level of ability in system administration of Windows fileservers.

7. Proven skills in managing Active Directory and System Centre Configuration Manager.

9. Proven knowledge of Ethernet network operation and protocols.

10. High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality, with maturity of judgement appropriate to the handling or accessing of sensitive and confidential information.

11. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and spoken, the ability to communicate technical issues in an accessible and supportive way.

12. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, completing tasks within given schedules, and at times under pressure.

13. Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

14. Success in organising a busy and varied workload.

15. Willingness to learn new skills.

16. Self-motivation, and ability to use initiative to recognise and solve problems.

**Desirable selection criteria**

1. A higher degree or professional computing qualifications.

2. Experience of Linux and/or Mac system administration.

3. Experience of managing storage systems and associated backup methodologies.

4. Experience of project lifecycle planning, implementation execution and closure.

5. ITIL foundation training and experience running services.

6. Experience of writing documentation and reports.

**Salary**: £45,585.00-£48,350.00 per year
