**Systems Administrator Inside IR35**

**Contract Term: 10 weeks**

**Location: Hybrid - Didcot - 1-2 days per week onsite**

The DAFNI team requires a team to manage and maintain the DAFNI systems.
DAFNI is a 723 core computational cluster, with up to 2PB of hybrid memory, configured on a Linux
base using a variety of packages, including Kubernetes, VMWare and GitLab. The DAFNI
development team build and maintain a bespoke set of microservices on top of this cluster which
are managed and maintained by the intermediate Kubernetes layer.

**As a Systems Administrator your main responsibilities would be**:

- Monitoring systems operations
- Taking appropriate action to maintain systems continuity
- Optimising systems performance
- Configuring components within the platform
- Updating systems components
- Monitoring security and responding to security incidents
- Deploying new bespoke software components
- Filling in documentation gaps and documenting any changes made to the systems
- Liaising with other groups in the department to manage shared resources

**The tools and systems to be maintained and supported within DAFNI include**:

- Kubernetes cluster hosting DAFNI microservices (Django) managed by pre-existing bespoke tooling.
- Docker and container first workflows
- Flux and GitOps with Helm
- Grafana and Prometheus
- Ingress controls into DAFNI
- Managing internal Harbour registries
- VMware and hypervisor updates
- Self-hosted Gitlab management
- Barman backups
- Object storage management (S3 - MinIO)
- PureStorage blockstore (managed and supported instance)
- Postgres database deployments (with Barman backups)
- Puppet / Foreman (Infrastructure and Configuration as Code tools)
- Management of physical machines in on-premise datacenter.
- Potentially LDAP account management

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- Working as systems operators in a Linux systems environment,
- On-premises operations of multiple servers in a machine room environment
- Knowledge of Linux system administration
- Knowledge of cloud native tools.
