Endocrine Surgery Clinical Fellow

Applications are invited for the post ofEndocrine Surgery Clinical Fellow post.
The post holder will support the elective activity of the unit by assisting in a variety of clinics and theatres. They would be expected to attend clinics and theatre sessions routinely on the Royal Liverpool & Aintree Hospital sites; additional paediatric and thoracic work is performed in other local hospital, but the post-holder not routinely be expected to go to these sites. It is expected they will support the F1/CT1 Doctors and pre-operative nursing team in peri-operative patient care. The post-holder maybe asked to provide cross-cover to the breast surgery patients on occasions. We would be expecting the post-holder to undertake appropriate administrative activities, audit and assist with medical student teaching.
The post holder will be required to contribute to the delivery of the endocrine surgery service at both The Royal Liverpool & Aintree University Hospital sites: along with Broadgreen Hospital the 3 sites are within Liverpool city area with hospital transport available. They will contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from endocrine surgical conditions. The work will be closely supervised by consultant surgeons and physicians attached to the unit. The applicant will be trained in surgery on the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. - and post-operative care as necessary. The incumbent will also be responsible, with other junior staff, for the day-to-day care of the unit’s patients. Prospective audits are practised by the directorate. All trainees and clinical fellows will be responsible for the collation and presentation of departmental audit data at regular audit meetings held in house and at regional meeting with other centres in the North of England.

Facilities in the Breast/Endocrine Surgery Unit
The Breast/Endocrine Surgery Unit currently has access to in-patient beds in the Royal Liverpool Hospital (RLH), Aintree University Hospital(AUH) and Broadgreen Hospital; with the majority of breast surgery managed as a day-case.
The RLH & AUH are exceptionally well equipped for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for the efficient care of breast/endocrine surgery patients. There is 24-hour access to the emergency theatres and all routine pathology services. The radiology department is equipped for emergency and elective diagnostic procedures, including US, MR and CT scanning. The library facilities in the hospitals are supplemented by excellent medical libraries at the Liverpool Medical Institute. Postgraduate teaching is provided by in-house seminars, x-ray conferences and audit meetings.
Research
The Unit has a good record of clinical investigation; with staff contribute regularly to national and international meetings. As a teaching hospital the post holder will have the opportunity to participate in audit and clinical research.
