JOB OVERVIEW
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Durham University International Study Centre as Student Support Officer.
The Student Support Officer is a key role within the Student Support Team, providing support to students to ensure they have a positive experience, assisting with the coordination of events and activities and encouraging student engagement, to support their progression and transition to University life.
The post holder will assist with facilitating student forums and committees. They will also assist with planning a varied schedule of enrichment activities, including events, clubs and societies and trips and visits.
The Student Support Officer will also be responsible for assisting with student arrivals and supporting the planning and implementation of induction activities.
In addition, the post holder will assist the wider Student Support Team to ensure that students are appropriately supported for the duration of their studies, in particular through pastoral and welfare support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To support with researching, planning, co-ordinating and implementing suitable and attractive activities and events for international students, engaging with students regarding potential events and encouraging participation and attendance
- To ensure that venues, catering/refreshments and equipment are booked as appropriate for identified events
- To develop and maintain relationships with staff and key stakeholders
- To promote and publicise all events, managing and printing the production of all promotional materials
- To liaise with tutors and provide support with school excursions
- To support with planning Durham University visit days and assist with managing the college allocation process
- To assist with planning staff events and activities
- To support staff and students to engage with Building Futures activities
- To engage with students regarding sports development activities, working closely with Durham University & Team Durham.
- To conduct and facilitate student/agent tours.
- To assist with producing risk assessments for events and ensuring legal requirements are met.
- To assist with setting up ISC student clubs and societies.
- To support the establishment of student forums and committees, to assist with managing the nomination and election processes for student representatives and assist with training and maintaining communication with student representatives.
- To support with the arrival process for students, safeguarding their welfare on arrival to the UK, in particular under 18’s
- To assist with arranging transport for student arrivals, accommodation transfers and events and activities.
- To support with organising induction events and activities for students and liaise with key stakeholders regarding arrangements.
- To work closely with the Marketing Team regarding all ISC events and activities, ensuring events are shared on social media
- To support with producing the weekly student newsletter
- To support the Marketing Team with film, photo shoots and interviews with students.
- To provide student facing advice and support at the Student Services Helpdesk
- To support the wider Student Support Team, in particular with regards to welfare and pastoral care of students.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working in administration
- Experience organising events and activities (Essential)
- Experience of working with students in an education environment (Essential)
- Knowledge of Further and Higher Education Courses/Structures
- Knowledge of student database systems
- Excellent customer service skills
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular, Word and Excel skills
