When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission, to grant the Wishes of children living in the UK with life threatening illnesses between the ages of 4 to 16 years. The charity was founded in Nottingham by Barbara White OBE who was so inspired by a seriously ill four year old with a dream to meet Mickey Mouse that she wanted to bring smiles to the faces of many more brave and courageous children. Our Wishes have the power to transform the lives of the children and families we work with and since 1990, we have proudly granted over 18500 Wishes across the UK.

We believe every child deserves to smile and we can provide time away, giving children and their families something to look forward to through times of uncertainty and often financial as well as emotional strain. Wishes allow the family to put their child’s illness on hold as they have fun and create precious memories.

**JOB PURPOSE**

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), this role-plays a pivotal part in planning and delivering marketing and communications activities to key audiences, such as supporters, volunteers, journalists, ambassadors and staff. Essential for the growth of When You Wish Upon a Star; integrated marketing campaigns are key to driving the charity’s brand awareness, reach, engagement and income growth.

You will be the driving force behind engaging new and existing audiences through our marketing and communication channels.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- You will be responsible for creating an effective communication and marketing plan for new and existing donors and Wish families
- Generating positive press coverage to raise the profile of the charity, and to attract new supporters
- Supporting the Senior Fundraising Manager in the delivery of integrated campaigns and appeals, working closely with other members of the team to support all communications aims and outcomes
- Co-designing with the Wish and Fundraising Teams you will create supporter journeys to strengthen engagement with donors and Wish families.
- Working with our website product owner and charity staff team you will optimise website content for search, accessibility, readability, and user experience.
- Experience of developing and implementing marketing and communications plans is essential for this role
- Knowledge of relevant legislation: marketing codes, data protection, copyright and model release is required
- To make full use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and related platforms) to promote the Charity and raise awareness
- You should be adept at using digital tools (e.g Google Analytics) and be able to write engaging copy with excellent editorial skills
- The ability to identify potential risks to reputation and escalate them accordingly is required
- Using excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to influence, advise and negotiate at all levels within the organisation and with external agencies you will improve and increase the Charity’s presence and image
- You should be well organised and able to manage multiple priorities and varying pressures to meet measurable targets and deadlines
- You will have a creative approach to reaching both new and existing audiences
