The Local Digital programme is expanding and we are offering up to three posts to act as policy advisors in a multi disciplined digital team. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to act as a policy officer in a digital environment, learning and employing agile methodologies for policy delivery.

The Local Digital programme has three key workstreams
- Local Digital Fund - helping councils deliver digital solutions to common challenges
- Future Councils - unblocking the challenges that prevent councils from being modern resilient organisations

**Job description**:
As a policy officer you’ll;
- be expected to consider a range of policy levers to unlock the strategic direction of the programme ensuring that outcomes are centred around the needs of end users and not just stakeholders.
- identify, evaluate and generate ideas for the continued transformation of the local government services.
- consider interdependencies with the wider department’s agendas of levelling up, local government productivity and improvement.
- make strategic links with the Digital directorate’s objectives.
- work with a range of stakeholders, including policy, strategy, user research, service design and analytical teams within the Digital Directorate and with wider Department. This will also include policy
- engage with other departments and officials in local government, as well as a number of stakeholders in senior roles.

**Person specification**:
As a policy officer you’ll be:

- highly motivated and take ownership of your work;
- able to interact with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the digital products are aligned with Ministers’ objectives;
- able to weigh up a range of evidence and options, including numerical data, and use sound judgement to form advice;
- able to form strong, effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, and are comfortable working with stakeholders with a wide range of views;
- able to see the big picture and think strategically, whilst also having a keen eye for detail;
- able to verbally brief senior staff, write succinct and clear written briefings for Ministers, and draft public briefing lines;
- at ease with digital tools to support their work and keep others informed;
- comfortable with working at pace.
