**Job summary**:
This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward the UK Government’s union agenda, ensuring that policy across UK Government departments help make the benefits of the union clear, tangible and understood. The role will involve building strong relationships with UK departments to understand and identify opportunities to improve the Union elements of UK Government policy as well as identifying opportunities to demonstrate how the Union is delivering for people in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The post holder will:
work to support UK-wide delivery of DLUHC policies,
provide union advice for several WH Departments, building relationships and influencing policy direction
Support the team to ensure UK Government policy in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is the benefits of the union clear, tangible and understood
The post holder will be expected to build partnerships with devolution and policy teams across UK Government, as well as understanding policy initiatives announced by Devolved Governments and how they intersect with UK Government proposals.
The post holder will be expected to proactively identify key Union priorities based on analysis of policy and political priorities. They will provide advice and support on designing and delivering joint policies with the devolved governments, including engagement and funding issues.
The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with teams across the Union and Devolution Directorate (UDD), both in DLUHC and the Cabinet Office, and with devolved governments in line with our overall Union strategy.
**Job description**:
Key responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for:
Understanding UK Government’s union priorities and working with policy teams to drive forward UK-wide programmes which are most important to strengthening the Union;
Developing a strong understanding of the political and policy environment in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and identifying where UK Government and Devolved Government policy intersect;
Identifying and creating policy opportunities which help drive the Government’s Union agenda, working with research teams and analysts to understand and strengthen the evidence base;
Building strong relationships with a range of UK Departments working with them to identify and progress policies that promote the union;
Providing expert advice and support to policy teams to deliver projects in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, both directly and in negotiation with devolved governments;
Advising Cabinet Ministers, No10 union team and senior officials on union policies, and drafting papers for the Union Cabinet Committee;
Building effective relationships with Departmental devolution and policy teams, No10, EDS and the Territorial Offices to influence and progress union policy delivery;
Contributing to building an inclusive culture in the team and wider directorate.
This role will allow the post holder to gain experience of working across disciplines and departments, bringing operational delivery, political analysis and policy making together, and provide a unique insight into the workings of government.

Able to work effectively across Government, with an ability to navigate technically complex and politically sensitive issues - and work with others to find solutions
Comfortable and resilient working in ambiguous and changing circumstances and identifying opportunities as they emerge
Comfortable building and fostering constructive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders across UK Government
Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to communicate and influence concisely and coherently to a wide variety of audiences including senior leaders
Comfortable dealing with complex and detailed information and can bring together well-thought-through policy options, based on evidence and analysis of the impacts on Government objectives
