Hybrid working options can be offered with a minimum number of days required on site per week (a typical minimum is 60% on site).

About the role
We are looking for a repository manager to join the team to implement and lead a programme of work to review, update, host and maintain the current institutional repositories ePubs and eData. In addition to developing the current research outputs repositories, you will build a team of data stewards who will curate the content of the repositories and any new repositories that are in development.

The post will be part of an Open Science theme of work within the Scientific Computing Department. We deliver services to researchers across STFC and have staff based at both the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in Oxfordshire and the Daresbury Laboratory (DL) near Warrington. The Group is responsible for the development and operation of library services, open access and open data services including two institutional repositories (ePubs and eData). It also undertakes research and development in open science practices and supporting technologies such as Persistent Identifiers, FAIR data and works with UKRI on Open Science Policy. Additionally members of the Group are active in national and international networks including the Research Data Alliance.

You will lead a review to identify a new repository platform for our existing repositories ePubs and eData and for several new repositories that are under development. Following the review, you will implement a change programme to install, configure and migrate data from our current repositories to a new platform(s).

The review will:
Make recommendations and inform developments of STFC Open Science Services
Understand how the ePubs and eData repositories are currently being used within STFC by different user groups and stakeholders to ensure current needs are captured in future developments,
Explore future requirements for STFC research outputs repository(ies),

Following the review, you will:
Implement a change programme to install, configure and migrate the repositories to a new platform(s),
Be responsible for overseeing the operation of the repository(ies) ensuring the repository content is accurate, reliable and processed in a timely manner to agreed standards,
Continue to propose and implement service improvements looking for opportunities to expand the scope and functionality of the repository(ies) building on user needs,
Contribute to the specification, development and operation of new repositories currently in development.
You will develop a range of contacts internally and externally to achieve the objectives of the post bringing together project stakeholders. You will work closely with the Digital Support Librarian who currently overseas the ePubs repository and with the Research Data Support Specialist who is responsible for the eData repository service and curation. You will also work closely with colleagues in software engineering roles, who will implement and provide technical support for the repositories, and across the National Laboratories with researchers and other stakeholders to understand user needs and design and configure the platform. External relationships will include suppliers and colleagues in the repository communities.

Examples of some of the activities you will be expected to undertake include but are not limited to:
Lead and manage the review, migration and implementation of a new repository platform to support STFC open science practices, research archive for publications, research data and other research outputs.
Liaise with stakeholders to understand, define and prioritise requirements.
Specify the configuration of the repository, including the submission workflows, metadata requirements, user interface and any other customisations.
Liaising with stakeholders to ensure the technical aspects of the project are coordinated and delivered successfully.
